Guest guest
Isn't the excalibur pretty large? I was thinking you may want to hang on to this for travel- like if you went to the beach for a week..or went to visit friends on a road trip. The yogurt maker would be easier to take along. PJ > > I finally got an Excalibur from Lucy's kitchen. I just made my first batch of yogurt. It stayed at a perfect 102 even all day yesterday when it was 80 outside and I had the house open and no A/C on. I love it. > > So that leaves me with a Eurocuisine yogurt maker (makes 7, 7oz jars at a time) with a dimmer switch and some extra jars that I no longer need(though I lost 7 of the tops by overboiling them just to find out I didn't need to boil them because I could ferment the yogurt with the lids off. GRRRR). (When I make 2 batches back to back, I would put plastic wrap over the jars when I put them in the fridge and would recycle the tops to bring the yogurt out of the house.) > > It's a great starter yogurt maker, but kind of a pain because you have to make yogurt every 2 days in it and it's difficult to drip because you have to empty the jars into something else. Someone on the list had purchased a 2 quart container that fit in their's but I haven't been able to find one. Albeit, I didn't look very hard (just at Wal Mart/Dollar store). So if you could find a container that would fit, the yogurt making would be so much easier. > > I will give it away with all the jars if you'll pay COD... just let me know if you're interested. > > I live right outside of Baton Rouge, LA if you want to meet somewhere. > > Misty Kimble > CD - no meds > SCD - 2 years >
Guest guest
I'm just curious...how does the excaliber make yogurt. I've checked out Lucy's site but it doesn't make sense. I'm hoping to get to the point where my little yogurt maker just isn't enough. To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sun, April 4, 2010 3:05:30 PMSubject: Re: OT - No longer need Eurocuisine Yogurt Maker if you need one Isn't the excalibur pretty large? Guest guest
The excalibur provides the environment with the correct temperature that we set. The newer models have a timer so it switches off on it's own (it is beyond sweeeeet!) so basically I set mine to the temp and to 26 hours and I don't have to worry about it like I did in the Yogurmet. I cannot express how many batches I chucked because I forgot about it. Even with post-its like everywhere! Jodi > > > > I finally got an Excalibur from Lucy's kitchen. Guest guest
Misty, you rock comparing your dehydrator to an Iphone! I still don't have an Iphone. I should though. Thinking about the android as I don't wanna switch cell providers. Do you want to use lids at all when you use your masons? Seems like the lids would get toxic in there- just sayin'. If you have a solution please let me know. Jodi
Guest guest
Rumor has it that Apples exclusive contract with AT & T expires in 2010. Lots of people think that at that point the iPhone will be available through more carriers. Who knows, but it's something you might want to consider before getting a Droid. Not that Androids are bad (they are quiet good), just want you to know all your options And yeah, I second that comparing your dehydrator to an iPhone is pretty rockin'. Kudos.~ Â Misty, you rock comparing your dehydrator to an Iphone! I still don't have an Iphone. I should though. Thinking about the android as I don't wanna switch cell providers. Guest guest
That's the IT person in me. As s former IT person, you get it. Yay!!! I'll put plastic wrap over my mason jars. I don't like using plastoc in a warm environment at all but since it will never touch the yogurt I think it will be ok. Guest guest
I follow alot of tech blogs/Twitter people and it's pretty much known they are making an iPhone for verizon. AT & T is just so prevelent down here I'd be in trouble because of mobile to mobile. Guest guest
Misty, Ok. I am thinking of maybe like a cotton cloth kind of thing? Cool. I didn't even think of something like wrap around! See how you induced ideas into my thick head? Loving it! Jodi > > > > Misty, > > > > you rock comparing your dehydrator to an Iphone! > > I still don't have an Iphone. I should though. But when we got our cells after Hurricane Katrina, my parents had Verizon, my sister had Verizon, my niece had Verizon, so, guess what we got? — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
A big rubber band would work good and you could still wrap the cloth around it. I think I just found use for my cheesecloth I never use. The plastic wrap holds the thermometer in place. Misty > > Misty, > > Ok. I am thinking of maybe like a cotton cloth kind of thing? > Cool. Guest guest
Heya Misty, Not trying to interrogate you <chuckle> but why do you keep a thermo in there? You don't trust the excalibur temp? Thanks! Jodi > > > > Misty, > > > > Ok. I am thinking of maybe like a cotton cloth kind of thing? > > Cool. Guest guest
Because I've only made 2 batches and I want to make sure that my house doesn't get too hot and the temp rise too much in my Excalibur. And, the temp gauge on the Excalibur doesn't have an exact temp setting on it. I just wanted to make sure. And, I thought it would be easier to leave the thermometer in there instead of having to resterilize it each time I wanted to take the temp. I'm not running my A/C yet and my house is staying about 84 during the day. Just being overcautious I guess, but that's my nature.
