Guest guest
Debbie When I was in my drastic yeast elimination SCD phase, I used the fruit nutrition lists frequently to determine the sugar content per serving. This nutrition data helped me select which fruits I would use (lowest in sugar), and then give me a rough idea of how often I should eat a serving. The serving size varies between lists, and since the lists are based on raw fruit rather than cooked, you have to best-guess the figures. Most of them use a 100g serving, which is about a cup -- but check the fine print on the list as some are larger serving figures. Makes it somewhat difficult to be completely accurate, but the lists help to give a good idea of which fruits to stay away from. Remember that the serving size of dried fruit will be much smaller -- or rather each piece of dried fruit contains a lot of sugar. I didn't touch a dried fruit until my 4th year on SCD, based on my candida surge symptoms. What worked for me was to keep my sugars down below 5g or 8g every other day during my super drastic phase. But that's me, my body reacts to fruits, so even now when my candida levels are under control I need to keep my fruits around 10g per day in total. It is a metabolic issue (insulin response -- or lack of!) I think a more " normal " goal would be 15g or under per day if you are dealing with candida. But you may need to go lower, or be able to go higher, without significant impact on your body or candida levels. You'll probably have to test and experiment. I use this fruit nutrition list often: http://www.thefruitpages.com/contents.shtml There are several others easily found online. Just search for " fruit nutrition " I stayed away from honey completely, so never looked that up but you should be able to find a nutrition summary for honey on a website somewhere. Kim M. Guest guest
Thanks for the link Kim. I was trying to computer fruit/honey to sugar in the same amounts as you would on prednisone since I've just started LDN last month. I don't use honey often anymore except to cook, not to just eat. I've gained a few also ;-). Wouldn't honey count as a fruit? Sorry to be dense, just some brain fog going on haha, Oh, was going to mention you're supposed to watch your salt intake also on prednisone. I do not have the amounts though. I don't think it was very much or it didn't seem like it then. I wonder also if that would apply to LDn. debbie 40 cd DebbieWhen I was in my drastic yeast elimination SCD phase, I used the fruit nutrition lists frequently to determine the sugar content per serving. Guest guest
I've read the opposite as well. Someone posted that her immunologist told her to eat fruits, because avoiding it all together makes the candida dig its roots further into the gut to find sugar. Another person's doctor said that yeast accompany bacteria, and that by decreasing the bacteria, the yeast will decrease as well. It seems that, unfortunately, there is not an agreement on how best to decrease yeast :-( Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > I stopped all fruits honey and any high carb veges abuot a year ago - doc said put in cooked berries about 5 months ago maybe??? - but the less of this the better - and i'm still loaded with yeast so the stricter the better I say IMO > eileen 2 years 3 months scd
Guest guest
Thanks Kim and thanks everyone for helping me get some prespective. I think that eating my low-sugar fruits (all I am eating is blueberries, avocado and moderate pear), and only being on 10mg of prednisone, I'm going to start the LDN as soon as I can. It sounds like it has helped so many people, and I am hoping it will help me too, despite the modest yeast problem. If I can taper off prednisone even a little I'm sure it will help with the yeasts, which will help with the LDN, and we can get this cycle going in the right direction! On another note, I just did an epsom salt bath with lots of epsom salt at it helped tremendously. I was getting so negative and depressed these last couple days. I did some deep relaxing visualizations and " let go, " remembering my yoga training, and voila - an evening of standing up straight, asserting myself as needed and seeing/feeling my third chakra spinning around happily. My pain is less and I've only gone once since then, with less pain. It's funny - when I chose to just go forward and heal, I remember all my strength, and my symptoms improve. I remember all my options too and they seem very manageable and I am more decisive. When I doubt myself I actually feel my energy drop way down to mid-level on my body. Symptoms, especially pain, get worse. If anyone else has gone through this or used visualization or meditation to heal, let me know! I'd love to chat. It seems to be working for me pretty well. Guest guest
I visualize, meditate and use the Silva Method. Well, I was heavily into it when I became ill. After that, I simply fell asleep. Now I'm starting to be able to stay awake but even doing mundane chores can have a calming effect if you focus on it. I have the same energy drops when I get too negative or feel too stressed. It's good to be mindful of that because it's a good indicator on direction. Oddly enough, I've wanted to try yoga and I received a 10-day free pass to check it out. I'm excited. I really don't know anything about it but I'm excited! I'd still like to try muscle testing for foods and supplements. Guest guest
Hi all I'm really hoping someone could answer my question here. I've been doing the SCD diet seriously for about 4 months. I've been a lot better.BUT I recently noticed that the maintenance meds that I take (mesalamine pills- Claversal) has certain binders that contain potato starch, which can only imagine is illegal. Also, its been recommended that I take pentasa enemas, because I'm currently taking entrecord enemas (which don't, I believe, have any illegals). The pentasa enemas actually have sugar- if I understand correctly! These common meds are used to keep the disease under control, if I stop taking them I could flare out of control, and yet they go contrary to the disease. I'm trying to taper my Claversal dosage, but as for finding a replacement for the entrecort enemas, that is "legal"this is definately a problem. It seems our maintenance meds are completely inundated with illegals!!!Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks EmadTo: BTVC-SCD From: texdebl@...Date: Fri, 9 Apr 2010 04:49:15 -0500Subject: Re: Re:Re: Decision about meds, was Re: dccc/yeast I visualize, meditate and use the Silva Method. Guest guest
I haven't necessarily used meditation but I kinda of use my own form of visualization and it helps. I notice that mood effects my condition ALOT. If something drastic happens, i'll flare from it, and then when everything is ok on the emotional side, it's all better just as quickly as it got worse. For example, say someone I love gets into a acar accident, that might cause a huge flare until I find out they are ok, and then magically i'm "normal" again.. overnight! I try to think positive and that helps alot. I also notice that if I keep myself busy and focused on things I enjoy, and not just this disease, it keeps my symptoms down as well. I think our minds need a break from this disease every once in a while. Or at least mine apparently likes it :)The epsom saly baths work wonders for me as well. Sometimes i'll have a trusted friend talk to me while i'm in there, that's also relaxing. That way you can get anything and everything off your mind while your relaxing. I've also hooked up the speakers into the bathroom so that I can listen to some calming music or noises, like running ater, crickets, birds chirping, or "nature sounds" which is also a great way to relax just before bed.Hope this helps, and glad you're feeling a little better!-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: evenstrangerquark@...Date: Fri, 9 Apr 2010 06:04:56 +0000Subject: Re:Re: Decision about meds, was Re: dccc/yeast Thanks Kim and thanks everyone for helping me get some prespective. I did some deep relaxing visualizations and "let go," remembering my yoga training, and voila - an evening of standing up straight, asserting myself as needed and seeing/feeling my third chakra spinning around happily. Guest guest
Emad, Don't stop taking your meds. You can try to have them compounded at a compounding pharmacy so you can tell them what you can't have in them. I know Elaine thought it was more important to take meds if needed with illegals than to not take them at all. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 2 years 3 months > > > Hi all I'm really hoping someone could answer my question here. I'm trying to taper my Claversal dosage, but as for finding a replacement for the entrecort enemas, that is " legal " this is definately a problem. It seems our maintenance meds are completely inundated with illegals!!!Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks Emad
Guest guest
I practice mindfulness meditation almost every day and recently found a great DVD - Grilley's Chakra Meditations. After I did the third chakra meditation, I felt a lot of heat in my spine in that area and was symptom-free, high energy for a day or so afterwards. You can't overdo it, though, and have to balance out the different chakra meditations. I'm starting to gently practice yoga and it helps a lot.I also find that my mental state has a lot to do with my symptoms. The more of a " normal " day I can have mentally, going about my routine, the better I feel physically. --
Guest guest
The problem is, I've seen people post that a food shows up fine one week, and not the next. If that's the case, it doesn't seem like it would be very helpful. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > I'd still like to try muscle testing for foods and supplements. Guest guest
Well let us know what you think of it when you do play it.I do a lot of yoga, which I find invaluable, but have not yetstarted so deeply on the meditation side of it, except when wedo it in yoga class. I need a bit of a kick in the butt to start upwith that as well, since I keep intending to, but just haven't doneit.MaraI just ordered the DVD -- I've been getting into meditation for stress relief.__________________________________________________________________CDSCD 6 monthsLialda, PurinetholFreeda Vitamins, L. I'll look more into it when I have a minute today. It reminds me that I found some good ones on youtube over the summer too. I just "shut off" from all that when the schizophrenia- type symptoms got their worst and I had to forget I was a spirit and pretend to just be a body for while in order to ground out I guess. Guest guest
Great, I hope you enjoy it. He also has the meditations on MP3 on the same DVD. If you pop it into your computer you can download the MP3s to your iPod or other MP3 player.-- I just ordered the DVD -- I've been getting into meditation for stress relief. __________________________________________________________________ CD SCD 6 months Lialda, Purinethol Freeda Vitamins, L.
