How do you make your own pecan butter? Do the nuts need to be blanched?

,If you use a blender or food process, just process the plain, unblanched pecans until it turns into butter. You might need to add a bit of oil, but it would be a very small amount.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, April 8, 2010 12:50:04 PMSubject: Pecan butter

, I make pecan butter in my 45 year-old blender. I have pecan

meal in the freezer so I use that as obviously the first part of the

chopping is already done. I do find I have to add a bit of oil and

it doesn't come out as smooth as creamy nut butters, more like

chunky. A FP works better, I understand, but I don't have one. It

only takes a few minutes.

I toast the pecans first.  Add them to the fp (before that I had a 1-cup chopper and they come out about the same).  I add a little oil but really it turns to butter fast,

I just add walnut oil to kind of thin it out and make it smoother.  Either way--chunky or smooth is good.  Sometimes I spice it up a lot if it's a small batch.  I usually add medium cut salt also.

Carrot cake muffins made with pecan butter and add extra walnuts--it's close to a brownie imho.

> Thanks for the response, Eileen. Unfortunately, we don't have any bjs around

here in Minnesota. Any other ideas where to buy? Also, how do you know when to

start trying the nut butters? My son and I have tried most of Stage 2 foods and

are tolerating them OK, except still having some C and D issues. Is it too soon

to try?

I was in a Whole Foods in Houston the other day and saw they had pecan butter

you could blend yourself in the store. I'm hoping I can do that at my local

Whole Foods, as it would be easier than making it (and cleaning up) in my own

kitchen.

Eileen,

The looser sounds OK, we tend towards C anyway. I also thought of another

question...should they be raw or roasted?

Thanks,
