Guest guest
Does anyone know at what level blood sugar becomes too low for a 1 yr old child with RSS. The doctor told me if it got below 40, but that sounds way too low to me. Any feed back would be great! Guest guest
le, When Alyssa was about 14 months she exhibited signs of low blood sugar at about 65. My doctor told me 40 as well. Now if her sugars get below about 80 she sure gets cranky!! My personal opinion is that as parents we must follow our instincts and err on the side of caution. If you are concerned when his blood sugar is higher than 40 and exhibits signs of low blood sugar, you can always call your doctor. After all, that's why they make the big bucks! :-) Dayna, Mom to Alyssa 3yrs _____ From: princessgs84@... Sent: Thursday, February 17, 2005 3:33 PM To: RSS-Support Subject: blood sugars? Guest guest
le, Dr H has always told us that she wants 's BS maintained between 80-120. Blood glucose is food for the brain. It's my understanding that a level below 40 means there isn't enough glucose to feed the brain, and damage can occur. To have a hypoglycemic episode, the BS doesn't necessarily have to drop into the danger zone (under 40). A significant drop, say from 140 to 80, will cause this. Guest guest
Ditto what Pat wrote. " Normal " levels are considering 70-120 or 80- 120. Now, some doctors may consider abnormally low to be 40, but honestly, if one of our kids is below 70, my guess is that they are probably spilling ketones, especially if the child is very underweight. For an RSS toddler (say less than 2 years old) whose head is still probably much greater sized proportionally to his body, a blood sugar level lower than 70, or the evidence of spilling ketones (with a higher BSL) can be dangerous. Make sure, ANYONE, that you read the document DR. H wrote about babies and ketone spilling. It is in the MAGIC library and can be given to any other physician. " Dr. H's letter to parents of infants " (but really applies to toddlers/infants). Jenn > Does anyone know at what level blood sugar becomes too low for a 1 yr old > child with RSS. Guest guest
I thought that it was the blood sugars that we check. So, which one is the main focus, the ketones or the blood sugar. I think I may have completely misunderstood this subject, also how so I get that Dr. H article?
