Guest guest
joyce sorry for late reply to this. i am not eating vegan but using low fat vegan food with a bit of meat. i have learned lots of little techniques like water saute'ing rather using fat and i keep away from dairy and wheat. i suppose i started off avoiding cheese as this always gave me mucous at the back of my throat and slowly changed my diet. i feel better for avoiding wheat. anyhoo, there is a website www.fatfreevegan.com with loads of recipes and they have a yahoo site like this. i get the digest and scan it. it is mostly way above what i want to do but i pick up hints. there is also a eat-2-live programme by a doc fuhrman. his (again has a bit of meat) but is an ultimate nutrient dense food programme. he has his own website www.drfuhrman.com and there is also a yahoo site like this. again i read the digest. many people are on both. the lady who owns www.fatfreevegan.com susan voisin sends a new recipe monthly with pics and feedback from the users. she has a facebook page too. she was invited to cook last year at a special vegan cooks event in california. there are also other docs - mcdougall, ornish, estelayn and sometimes they all debate and argue with each other on the best approach. they are pretty similar. i actually bought a mcdougall cookbook which is very vegan and has loads of great recipes for all the dressings and toppings etc. he also has a newsletter service giving recipes. the eat to live programme is basically, 1lb cooked fruit and/or veg a day with 1/2 beans/pulses, 1/2 advocado for essential fatty acids, tblspn of nuts/seeds. i was looking for optimum nutrition and i found it. they have plenty yummy things to eat too. hope this helps may > > I guess no one has tried this. I have come across some information that a low fat Vegan diet is a good diet for Type 2 diabetes and for people with allergies and autoimmune diseases. I am learning how to eat as a Vegan and find it wonderful and quite tasty and my diabetes is getting much better. I think soon I will be off all medication. It is very high carbohydrate but it never affects my blood sugar adversely. I don't know how it will affect Pulmonary Fibrosis but mine is from the birds....I was wondering if those of you who have autoimmune disorders affecting your lungs had tried it? Guest guest
My diet has no classification, but it is one that has evolved over the years. It conists primarily of fruits, raw vegetables, fish and chicken, milk. If I am at a dinner where meat is served, I take a small protion. I will eat sweets when served, but rarely do at home. I do allow some ice cream and when I feel like getting a buzz on, I drink root beer.. My breakfast conists of half a toasted bagel with cream cheese, a banana, an organge, grapes and a cup of tea. Lunch is usually pineapple, peach or other fruits depending upon the season, raw vegtables such as carrots, broccoli and similar ones dipped in a sauce. Dinner is similar but is less restricted. That's when I eat salmon or other fish and chicken. Can't say it works for anyone else, but it works for. I listen to my body which tells me when it doesn't really want a certain food. It knows best. Guest guest
May- I am on the McDougal diet now. I have the McDougall cook book and indeed there are lots of wonderful recipes! Actually the food is terrific. I have had to add Tofu and Tempeh because I need more protein but love the food! I am taking a Weight management class at my local JC and am being taught the McDougall diet and it was said that for people with allergies this is a great diet or for people with type 2 diabetes. I have diabetes and though I worried that it was a high carb diet I have had no problems and in fact think in a few months I will be off all medicine. But I was wondering if those in this group with autoimune disorders had tried it because in class it was suggested it was a great diet for these conditions. Do you have an autoimmune disorder or allergies? And is it working for you? I have not gone Vegan yet because everyonece in awhile I eat a hamburger while I am out but the vegan food is really delicious. I also have the website you suggested and it is a great website for fat free Vegan foods. The Mcdougall website is also chocked full of recipes. Thank you for responding. Guest guest
joyce i had already cut down on wheat and dairy before i came across eat2live. i managed to stay on it strictly to lose 5bmi points to get me to 30. the transplant people wouldnt see me til i had done that. it took about 6months. i then stayed about the same for the next 12 months but lately i have put some back on. i slipped into bad habits a little bit and have came back from that. mostly i have been eating too much chocolate in the evening. if i have any auto immune it hasnt shown itself yet..... but i think i might be coeliac. i feel so much better without wheat. i meant to say 1lb raw and 1lb cooked veg in my earlier description. i dont think ive ever managed to eat 2lb of fruit and veg a day but i do eat sooo much more than i used to. i start my day with a banana and then had more fruit and sometimes add a spoonful of ground flaxseed. lunch is salad veg and ive just started adding in some beans/pulses which helps keep me satisfied. dinner is lots of veggies to which i do add quite a lot of chili and some meat. i try to make this normal for my hubbie but it doesnt have oil, fats, flours etc. flax seed again makes a good thickener. i need to go back on a severe programme to get back to my 30bmi. i think i need to lose 6lbs for that and of course another few wouldnt do me any harm. may uip 0606 glasgow, 50yo. > > > > I guess no one has tried this.
