Guest guest
Carole, Respectfully, you are not understanding what I, and others, have been saying. Although Ren has her reservations about the DS, when people have told her that was the only procedure they wanted, she has done it, and well. (And please don't bring up Deb; until ALL facts have been made public, let's not hang Ren until she's been PROVED guilty. Even the great Gagner has lost patients and hasn't been bashed the way that Ren has). I can only speak from my experience and those of her patients I've spoken with. Marcia Re: Amazing! Instead of caring about her future patients so they can have the same opportunity that YOU had, you ask others not to judge the surgeon and you still stick up for her. Incredible. And, sorry, but I will judge when I think a surgeon is wrong. Its my right to have a choice of the surgery I want. its the right of any future Ren or patients to have the same choice. But you seem to think it isn't, and since you already " got yours " it doesn''t matter. Guest guest
Marcia, What I think everyone is saying (as if I could be nominated spokes person for anyone here) is that it seems a bit unethical (dont know if its the right word) for Dr. Ren to substitute the DS for the BPD and somehow give the impression that they have comprable results when they dont! If they did the BPD would have never evolved to the BPD/DS Or maybe I am just misunderstanding what everyone else is saying.... Guest guest
The problem is, Lizbeth, that people ARE misunderstanding Dr. Ren's ethics and motives. She has explained that she feels that there are risks inherent in the DS, not inherent in BPD. She explains ALL options available and if the patient, the INFORMED patient, then wishes to continue on with the DS, I haven't heard of her refusing to do it yet. That's the point I've been trying to make! Marcia Re: Amazing! Guest guest
> Even the great Gagner has lost patients and hasn't > been bashed the way that Ren has). I know that the great Gagner has lost patient. What he hasn't done, to my knowledge, is tell a patient that we DSers are a little too attached to our pyloric valve, or that we " put them on a pedestal " . That attitude is what bothers me more than anything. Guest guest
Marcia - Have you read the information on Deb's site? We're not in a court of law here. It clearly points out that there may be unexpected risks with the fully lap DS. I think that the method used to perform the procedure is what should be being questioned, not the DS itself. It is a very complex surgery and making it even more difficult by going fully lap may not make a lot of sense. Everyone loves their surgeon and I love mine as much as you love yours. However, it is foolhardy to dismiss every bit of information that comes your way that threatens your paradigm. Best - Nick
Guest guest
Carol, I'm sorry that you signed on at a time when a debate was going on that wasn't 100% comfortable for you. However, this is precisely why this group exists. We are here to support each other and to learn about this procedure, but also to hash out issues that could affect our choice and expectation of positive outcome. You are welcome here, and I hope you stay to read and learn. Magruder (DS list moderator) > Last Thursday I saw the surgeon (#2), I was determined I wanted the > RNY. Guest guest
Dear Carol: Welcome to the group. Sometimes you will see discussions/debates as many of the people here are strongly opinionated (to say the least) and most are quite intelligent with keen minds. However, you'll also see a lot of information and support being exchanged. It all works to make this a lively and informative forum. Please continue to lurk and/or participate. Tell us some more about yourself and what your needs are. Who is your surgeon??? --- Carol wrote: > Last Thursday I saw the surgeon (#2), I was > determined I wanted the > RNY.
