What are the main differences (if there is any) between Dr. Klein’s Self Healing Colitis & Crohn's diet and our SCD ?Oh goodness. Everything! Have you read the book? He advocates a raw vegan diet, mostly focusing on fruits. So no meat, no cheese, only occasional nuts. It's VERY different. I was on his diet in January 2009, and it put me in the hospital. Not to say it doesn't work for many people, but it definitely didn't work for me. The only similarities between the diets is that neither allow grains, and both encourage natural, unprocessed foods. It's great that it worked for him though.

The vegan approach and three day juice fast as an 'into' would have killed me.  He also mentioned food combining from the website.  He claims 100% cure guaranteed ;-).  There is no 'cure' except staying with what works if you are lucky enough oto find somethign that will work!

I don't know what else he advocates, but I do know he advocates a vegan

diet.

Funny thing, over the years, more people than not come to SCD who have

been vegan, and then become ill, including my own mentor.

I can't live on fruits, vegetables and nuts. That was one thing I

tried in my 25 years of searching for an answer. All it did was make me

sicker.

I just got Dr. Klein's book but I haven't read through it yet so I can't really

say too much about it. I will say though that doing a juice fast during a flare

has helped me far more than the intro did on multiple occasions. Intro helped

during some flares but the super bad ones I had recently refused to be

controlled by it and only a juice fast helped me get healthy enough to go back

onto intro. I'm actually thinking about incorporating a couple days juice fast

into each month just because of how amazing it made me feel (lots of energy,

sleeping better and happy all the time! woo!). And surprisingly not at all

hungry! The body is an amazingly complex machine, eh? :D

Uh-huh. And there are plenty of people for whom a juice fast would land

them in the hospital. Including me.

Yep. We each have to find what works with our body on this diet. I would have

(and did on one occasion) ended up in the hospital WITHOUT doing the juice fast.

:)
