I really don't appreciate being attacked for stating my experience nor my opinions. I thought this was a support group not a bash session. FYI, I to agree that at this time I to feel that the BPD/DS is the best surgery for me and that is why I am having it next month but I must say I did alot of research to get to this decision including watching Dr. Hess's video. >I know this because I just had my consult > with Dr. Oakley of Dr Hess, the surgeon that > developed the BPD//DS. First of > all, Dr. Oakley and Dr. Hess (in his video) both > explain why the Scorponio > method DOES NOT WORK. Then they explain why their > method is better. ****I would like to caution you though since it seems to me that you put a lot of stock in just what one or two doctors say. If you ask most doctors they will tell you that there way is the best way. Advances in medicine are not always the best way. I made that mistake once myself and have live with the horrible side effects every single day since then. See, I mistakenly thought the FDA was here to protect us, I learned the truth the hard way. > Sounds like Ren can't do the surgery **** Have you met Dr. Ren? I wasn't in her office 2 min. and new she cared. I have met a lot of Doctors, not just as a nurse but as a patient these last 5 years. I have been to 34 different doctors and let me tell you, not all of them treat you as a person or could care less about you. Have you read Dr. Ren's credentials? If you did then you already know that she was involved with teaching of advanced Lap. procedures and was also involved in refining the technical details that lead to the first Lap. BPD/DS . For further details of Dr. Ren's credentials go to www.thinforlife.org. Or go to Hull's File below http://groups.yahoo.com/group/duodenalswitch/files/Chris%20Hull%27s%20Folder/ear\ ly_results_bpd_ds.pdf >>Sounds like Ren can't do the surgery ****Making comments like the one above is not only useless but a direct intent to defame a doctor. Dr. Ren stated to me that she was considering no longer doing the BPD/DS and Of course she does offer other types of WLS. I don't pretend to know why she has decided this but I do understand that she has that right. >>>It is a travesty ****I think the bigger travesty is when someone joins a support group and takes to Bashing other members. I joined this group to learn what others have discovered along there journey before and after surgery and to help my peers by relating my experiences not to condem and sling negative words and untruths. ****I am in know way affirming nor condemming any doctors opinions on the different types of WLS. It is up to the Patients to do the research to make good sound medical choices. It only makes good reasoning that when a person calls to make a consult appointment it is up to them to find out if that surgeon does the procedure they are looking for even if they have read or heard that the doctor does what they are looking for, because like all things in life Change happens and often before the websites get updated. ===== B 36yrs Pre-op 11-13-01 Wt.308 BMI 49 BCBS of MI Blue Choice POS __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I wouldn't > be so quick to defend him > unless there was objective evidence that he was > right. ****Nick, DOes no one really read the texted. Because I respect a persons right to do the job they want, that is Defending them. WOW! I certainly have defended a lot of people in my life if thats the case. The only person I am defending is my self and what I have stated. All I have said is that she has decided not to do the DS anymore. DOes she not have the right to do that? The last I knew, we all have that right. Are doctors any different somehow? ***Are you under the impression that she is the only doctor who has had a patient with complications, if so you better check again. It would be nice if all of you that jump on those who posted lately about these Doctors changing procedures put themselves in there position. Most people choose the doctor they go to and learn all they can about them before the consult then they wait months to get in for the consult, When they get there the doctor isn't no longer doing the procedure they went to them for in the first place. I felt sorry for Lee Anne, people jumped on her like she had did something wrong. SHe was only posting her situation and some made it look like she was an advocate for the BPD. From my understanding, both of the surgeons who are stopping doing the DS have done the DS successfully many times. Why are they stopping? Ren talked about the increased Lap. SURGICAL Risks. Reason Dr. P isn't doing the DS I haven't a clue. AS far as Ren's bedside manner, It only makes her a better choice. I have talked with enough of Dr. Ren's patients to feel comfortable with her doing my surgery. > I still don't understand why, if she thinks the lap > procedure is > problematic, doesn't she go to lap " assisted " or > open? > ****You'd have to ask her, I'm sure she has her reasons. If you want to know why she isn't doing the DS, email her. She usually answers within a day. go to www.thinforlife.org and click on Dr. Ren and click on contact Dr. ***WLS is a big step to take and is not one taken without alot thought and research. Like I said before, I thought I finally found a support group for the DS and not a mud slinging, people bashing session. I'm beginning to think this is like so many of the other groups out there and only a select few are allowed. That's To Bad. ===== B 36yrs Pre-op 11-13-01 Wt.308 BMI 49 BCBS of MI Blue Choice POS __________________________________________________
