Guest guest
, I was thinking the same thing right before surgery. Granted at the time I was also avidly interested in the Genome Project. I thinks its all in our genes....As much as wer all the same the slight variations give us the infinite outcomes. I think this also accounts for the difference such as two people can weigh the same amount and be the same height and have there weight affect them very differently. BTW your last paragraph gave me quite the chuckle. I was telling myself the same thing before surgery afterwards I decided to go with the flow.....LOL Lisbeth mkf5t@... wrote: You know, there must be SOME way to predict who will be a good loser and who will not; who will have lactose intolerance and who will not; who will need lots of additional supplements and who will not; who will have stinky, loose, and irregularly-timed BMs and who will not. I will not, cannot, believe that these are just random occurances. Nobody knows how your body will react until it happens? Science does not work like that (for the most part; please no comments about chaos theory!!). Do any of you have any of these minor problems/inconvenient side effects that you IMAGINE might be tied to something that you know about yourself or a pre-op condition???????????? I think that I inherited that from my father, because I can distinctly recall my mom always yelling at my dad and telling my dad that he was a big stinker. I have a lactose intolerance now. I did not have one before the surgery. I think that happened because one of my over-zealous friends was swinging a cow to get a good outcome for me--bad Karma, my friend! And, I am losing weight slowly. That, undoubtedly, is because I have such big feet (Size 13), and if I were to lose weight faster, I could get all caught up in those feet if I were to try to run...or something. It could also be an environmental thing: you see, I saved all those clothes on the way up, so maybe I have to get them all dirty on the way down, and that takes time...who knows ALL the mysteries of the Universe? Now, I get a lot of gas, but that must be related to the fermentation of the Bull$#!^ that I sling. --Steve (switched in mind and body!) --
Guest guest
Hi , Before surgery I was highly iron deficient to the point my gyno wanted to do a hysterectomy. (I didn't). I had high cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, vitamin deficient all across the board. I was taking a daily multivitamin & calcium as suggested by my doc. After surgery, my iron levels have come up, my cholesterol has gone down, along with my blood pressure and triglycerides. I still take a multiviatamin & calcium. Those are the " what's " . I'm not qualified to know the " why's. " Anybody? heidi http://www.myWLS.com
Guest guest
Hi ; I'm only going to address two questions. It has ocurred to me that 'age at time of surgery' is a factor that I've never seen addressed here. Yet, age is a well known factor in simple dieting without the surgery. As one reaches 30 years of age, it starts becoming more difficult each year to lose weight. Why should this be any different after WLS? I would love to know the age of those who have had an effortless time dropping their weight post surgery. Before I had my surgery, I recall reading of others who dropped 30 pounds a month, then 20 pounds a month. That made me feel like a failure. I've just now lost 48 pounds and it's been 15 weeks. That's just 3.2 pounds per week average. I'm 49 years old. If I factor in my 'advanced age' ;-} that's actually not so bad. So, I'm guessing that age absolutely effects how quickly we lose and probably also, how vigilant we must be in watching what we eat. As to the lactose intolerance? If you have a parent or a sibling who is already lactose intolerant, you can pretty much take that as a giant hint that you will too. I was lactose intolerant PRIOR to surgery, but do not seem to suffer from it now. Go Figure! I still drink lactose-free milk as a safe-guard. gobo Dr. Lap DGB/(DS) July 9, 2001 Starting Wt. 307 Current Wt. 259 > You know, there must be SOME way to predict who will be a good loser > and who will not; who will have lactose intolerance and who will not; > > Love to all, >
Guest guest
OK, I was going to respond with something that I would have hoped to be equally witty, but your smart-assed power truly does exceed my own, as evidenced particularly with your last sentence. I bow and humbly submit to the master of smart-assedness. Guest guest
I think it is a miracle that all DS post ops don't have lactose intolerance (LI). You may find many of your questions asnwered at the following sites: The Lactose Intolerant Clearinghouse http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/stevecarper/welcome.htm The NIH site about what LI is. http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/digest/pubs/lactose/lactose.htm National LI Page http://www.geocities.com/Paris/4664/lactose.html http://www.gastro.com/lactose.html Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse in Seattle > You know, there must be SOME way to predict who will be a good loser > and who will not; who will have lactose intolerance and who will not;
