I know peanuts are, but not sure about the oil. That's all info from http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info. A moderator might have more suggestions. I'm a little confused as to which oils are okay to use. I thought I remembered reading it in the book, but now I can't seem to find it. I know olive oil is okay, but I also want something more mild, say to make squash fries and such. Is canola oil legal? Thanks, Jen

Is canola oil legal?I think all oils and fats are legal, since they don't have any carbohydrates in them to feed the bad bacteria. However some oils are not really very healthy, even if they are legal. I personally wouldn't use canola oil. I think expeller pressed coconut oil is pretty mild, and much healthier than some of the alternatives. Guest guest
Awesome, thanks! I've seen a lot of posts about sunflower and safflower oil and I found some good sources for those. > > > I'm a little confused as to which oils are okay to use. I've seen a lot of posts about sunflower and safflower oil and I found some good sources for those. I've used safflower and sunflower, also olive oil, also expeller pressed coconut oil for a number of things. Some people get more finicky about it, and if there's a reason to, you can dig into it. But those oils are all what got me through my first several years of SCD. Elaine didn't recommend canola oil because it was derived from a gene-modified crop. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
Not all oils are legal. Soybean oil is not legal on SCD. - > > I'm a little confused as to which oils are okay to use. (My husband does not like the extra-virgin because of the coconut taste, so I reserve that for things which should have a coconut taste.) In fact, my order of coconut oil should be here any day. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
I'd watch out for canola oil... like soybean oil, it is frequently partially hydrogenated. Remember, make sure your oils are unrefined! Also, Canola oil is largely man-made. That is, it's made from rape seed which is the cheapest of the seeds in your bird-seed mix. It's much more processed than other oils so I kind of don't trust it for that reason.
