Guest guest
GOD this is embarassing but I need an answer I have read a few post's about poeple here taking Flagyl. What type of infection is Flagyl being prescribed for? I was told I have a bacterial infection from my GYN several days ago and he said Flagyl is the only antibiotic that will clear it up. This clears up my BIG mystery. For the past 6 months my family Dr has been treating for a Urinary Tract infection and the multitude of different antibiotics was causing a yeast infection, or so we thought. Now my GYN after a pap smear said it's NOT a yeast infection but a bacterial infection and he prescribed Flagyl for it.The reason for the white blood cell count in my urine is to many vitamins. I don't want to continue to have this reoccuring, is this bacteria in our feces due to our surgery? Does anyone know if the acidiophillis (spelling) I don't even know the correct name for it, will help this bacteria problem? I have been through hell because of this and spent a fortune in Dr's and scripts, my Cobra expired and I have ran through 4 insurance companies and can't get anyone to insure me until now and Blue Cross has finally accepted me. Any info would be appreciated. Renae 2/27/01 245 lbs 11/1/01 166 lbs

A variety of things, including both gynecological AND abdominal problems. We focus on its ability to kill off anaerobic bacteria that ferment partially digested food in your gut and produce lots and lots of smelly gas. >I was told I have a >bacterial infection from my GYN several days ago and he said Flagyl >is the only antibiotic that will clear it up. OK, I guess. I don't play a doctor on TV, either. > I don't want to continue to have this reoccuring, is this >bacteria in our feces due to our surgery? If it is in your gut, it is also in your feces. But, you don't have to concern yourself about what's in your feces; it's what is still in your gut that counts. >Does anyone know if the >acidiophillis (spelling) I don't even know the correct name for it, >will help this bacteria problem? Lactobacillus Acidophilus and other bacteria are the " good " bacteria that you want to work for you in your gut. But, antibiotics can kill off the good as well as the bad guys. So, when you take an antibiotic, it is prudent to repopulate the good guys by taking Acidophilus cultures. One of the most effective is a " cocktail " of four different bacteria; it comes in capsule form, and it is in the refrigerated section of your vitamin shoppe. I use the Solgar " Acidophilus 40+ " concoction. It costs $20 for 120 capsules. You can also get the LIVE cultures from eating yogurt that says on the label that it meets the standard for live cultures. It is also prudent to eat such yogurt, if your system can take the yogurt without complaining. >I have been through hell because of >this and spent a fortune in Dr's and scripts, my Cobra expired and I >have ran through 4 insurance companies and can't get anyone to insure >me until now and Blue Cross has finally accepted me. Bummer! We prefer to insure only those who are not likely to make claims. --Steve -- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 10/25 = 39 (-75 lb.) -- No longer M.O. I can name 2 infections that the " only " treatment that works is flagyl.. I prescribed a long ton of Flagyl when I worked in the free clinic. Renae, I hope for your sake that this is finally the answer, & I hope it works FAST.. you've been through heck, & deserve some good things to happen. Steve is right, though.. take the acidophilus so that it will restore a balance in your gut between the " good " and the " bad " bacterias.
