Thank you . Unfortunately my son wouldn't drink anything like that, he has consistancy issues thus the peanut butter ball idea. I hear they go down better dipped in chocolate though..Is cocoa high in starch then? I cannot find this info on the net but will look again.

Hope you don't mind the comment and I'm not sure of your medical difficulties, but I hope you are being careful/monitored with the prednisone use. God bless, Kathy

Cocoa butter is allowed... cocoa powder isn't because of it's chemical makeup <-- simple answerI used to be into bodybuilding before I got this disease. since starting SCD i've had to give away all my protein powder, but you can still make a protein shake using yogurt and blending a banana and some honey into it, or whatever else you want in order to flavor it. I drink a yagurt shake after the gym now. If you drip the yogurt first, it's almost pure casein.. which is a good cheap source of protein.

Hope  this helps.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 11 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Colazol - 9 pills a day Prednisone 25mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.

Hi I've been trying to start the SCD program off and on [easing into it] for my autistic 'child' [age 20] and I wonder if there is a 'legal' protein powder allowed on this diet? I know hemp is out and some others. I'd like to make some sort of peanut butter balls. ALso why is cocoa not allowed if anyone knows? [Please don't tell me 'because it works that way' as I've already found this answer on the net! lol]

Thanks!

Kathy

Kathy,It's not because of any carbs or sugars in the chocolate, it's because of the chemicals in it. Sort of the same reason why mild cheddar you can have as much as you want, whereas sharp cheddar you are only supposed to have occasionally. This is because of the chemicals that the cheese has in it from the longer aging process. Elaine thought it may impact someone with a weakened immune system in a negative way, this sharp is occasional and not as much as you want. The same reasoning is behind chocolate, but since there are so many different chemicals in it, it's an illegal.I'm trying desperatly to get off the pred, but right now it's the only thing that takes some of my pain away, and keeps me from killing whales in the toilet. Cocoa is chock full of illegal stuff.

So are protein powders.

There are no SCD-legal protein powders -- there's plenty of protein in

meat, fish, eggs, and cheese.

I will repost the cocoa message from a couple of days ago.
