,Fantastic that you are seeing such great improvement so early in the diet. I am sure the D is very frustrating. Have you kept a food diary to see if there is a pattern to the urgent D days? I know DH had issues with eggs and yogurt at the beginning, and I notice you are eating nut butters at a fairly early point. Of all the things you are eating, I would start a food diary and pay particular attention to the timing of D days with the egg, yogurt and nut butter and also note the amounts of the foods. Sometimes 1 egg is fine baked into something, but not on it's own boiled/scrambled. Or 1 tsp of nut butter is o.k., but 2 nut butter brownies aren't. AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, May 13, 2010 12:28:45 AMSubject: 2 and a half months in - still so much D!

Hey Gang -

So I have been on the diet since March 1st (5 days on intro) and have worked into phase 1 and some of 2. I eat homeade yogurt, a little cheese, meats/fish/fowl, well cooked easy veggies, honey, a little nut butters, ripe bananas, cooked fruit, and eggs. I am very aware of what I eat and am pretty certain illegals are not sneaking in.

I know I am getting better overall as I no longer have pain and have not seen blood in a long time. Some days I go to the bathroom only once or twice (I call these miracle days) and they are soft stools. I have yet to have what I call a normal BM but I figure it takes time. But what I still have are days where I have to go many many times (like 6 to 8) and have urgent almost can't make it D! What might I be doing wrong or is this just how it goes....

I have colitis which was diagnosed Oct 2009 and was out of control last fall - it got a bit more tolerable with steroids. I went off the roids in February and on the diet beginning of March when Dr. said I needed to try the heavy drugs (Tcell suppressors). I am presently taking 6 colozal a day and a few SCD legal supplements (fish oil, black currant oil, solaray probiotics). I have tried not taking the supplements - does not seem to make a difference. Also I see my acupuncturist every week and take chinese herbs - she is totally on board with the diet and promises no illegals in them. (She read the book).

I just want to stop the urgent D! - Any ideas? Is it possible I am not getting enough fiber? I am nervous to add in the heavy hitters on veggies yet. Also, I can tell the more sleep I get the less urgency overall but somtimes the sleep makes no difference. Oh what to do.........other than hope for more healing.

I've been on SCD a year and I was at about the same place you were after about 2

months. Improvement but still with some D. You are progressing and that is

great! I was on the same types of foods too.

Calcium is a good binder, so some legal calcium supplements helped.

Progress is slow and steady.

I was also taking sulfasalazine. After about 6 months on SCD I added LDN.

The D just gradually got better. Now, if I don't get enough fiber, I sometimes

get C. Could not imagine this!

Hang in there.

It takes time, sometimes a long time depending on how long you've been ill (not dx'd, just ill).  You are still very early in.  It seems too early for nut butters imho.  It says in the BTVC to watch OJ and eggs until 'd' has decreased or stopped.  No peanut butter yet.  Try to find a core group of foods to work with for now until you are more steady.

Stage 1 on pecanbread.com may work for you--not everyone.  Zucchini, yellow squash, everything cooked, peeled and seeded.  Start out slowly, eat small meals if possible.

Just my advice fwiw ;-).  Good luck and I don't know if the Chinese herbs are legal.  Even if the person read the book, watch the supplement ingredient labels.  Eventually you'll know exactly when to say no and what works.  Tolerances change over time but not immediately.

Freeda Vitamins make SCD legal vitamins. I buy mine from Digestive Wellness on

line. The Freeda calcium contains magnesium, and too much of that can act like a

laxative. I did not have problems with Freeda Vitamins, but I also used plain

powdered calcium made by " NOW'. It has nothing but calcium and I bought it from

luckyvitamins.com.
