Did any of you see very bold independence before your

child was 2? I am fighting 21 month old with

this right now. He would rather not eat something

rather than let me help him with it. For instance,

I'm sitting here with a cup of Jello, and he wants to

take the cup and feed it to himself, but me not

wanting to put him in the high chair right now, I need

to feed it to him. I offer him a bite, he runs off

screaming. He comes and tries to take the cup and

spoon. We just solved the problem, I let him set it

on a chair and he's feeding himself. My mother, who

is in denial that he is autistic, says that he is just

strong willed. Anything sound familiar?

You describe Jane at that age to a T. We didn't know she had PDD

until she was 26 mos, but I distinctly remember 20 mos bc that's when

her brother was born. those kind of things stick with you. (-: She

was very strong willed, and I thought " good, she will be a strong

woman some day " if I don't kill her first. Ha! She is still extremely

strong willed. Until about 32 mos, she had to get in car seat, high

chair, crib, etc. by herself. It was dangerous at times, but much

safer for all concerned if I let her crawl up in that highchair by

herself. She is less rigid with having to do things on her own. She

is still strong willed, but understands things better. She now knows

that she gets 3 counts before I will touch her. She hates being

touched, so the 3 count works great with her!!!!! Hang in there. It

will get easier when he matures. Strong people are the survivors? I

am just trying to make you feel better, bc it's tough.

100% familiar to me-but asserting independence is a natural milestone
