Stool Color-Interesting!

I just stumbled across this interesting comment online, and it got me thinking, since my BMs are almost never brown. They're usually green or orange. "Color of feces must be yellow, it must not be green, cause green color of feces indicates lack of good bowel bacteria."This was just on a random chat room/forum type thing talking about feces transplantation, so obviously not a reputable site, but I did a little more research and found this, which looks more believable:http://www.healthhype.com/what-is-normal-bowel-movement-color.html"Bile, as excreted from the liver into the duodenum, is green due to contained bilirubin. Normal intestinal bacteria will change bilirubin to yellow/orange and then brown color in several hours. So, normal stool will be brown, but when stool travels through the intestine fast (like in diarrhea), it will be yellow or green, since bacteria have no time to change its color."So, I haven't had D in at least a week now, and even then it was only once (yay), but my solid and mushy poop is all still green, and occasionally orange. SOMETIMES, very occasionally, it's brown. Two days ago, I didn't have a BM at all, but then the next day when I went it was still green, so I'm thinking it's not from moving through too fast. But maybe instead of the bacteria not having enough time to change the color, there just aren't enough good gut bacteria to do it in a reasonable time! It would make sense, sort of. And it would make sense then that green BMs indicate die off. I realize my green poop could also be from my green smoothies, but I do go days without having them and my poop is still green. And on days where I have orange or brown poop, I've still had my smoothies. So the correlation isn't exactly there. What do you guys think? Alyssa,

It's likely the green smoothies. I know that if I eat a lot of green stuff, I'm

likely to see more green. This was more true at the start of SCD than it is now.

Maybe it's because it is not moving as quickly through me now. Even if you don't

drink them for a day or two, there is probably still some color from what you

ate before. Medications can change stool color. Is the orange from carrots? They

do that to me all the time.

The bacteria theory is interesting- but we should be getting some from our

yogurt. I do better when I eat plenty of it.

It sounds like you are doing better. I'm so glad for you.
