Well - here's my brief med history, lol . . .

Started with Prozac and felt NOTHING. Then had Paxil - it worked great on my

emotions, but made me so tired I was practically catatonic. This finally led

to Effexor which has worked ok (I don't feel as " stable " as I did with Paxil,

but I'm not sleeping on the job, kwim?) With all of these, I have gained so

much weight it is completely uncomfortable!! DH has been on Wellbutrin, but

I personally haven't tried it.

And to answer the other question. I know that I would lose some weight, but

am worried that since the meds caused me to gain weight, would it make my

weight loss after surgery less or slower?

<< Kathy,

I'm not a health care professional, but why not ask your PCP if a switch to

Wellbutrin would be as effective as what you're on now. When I switched over

from Zoloft to Wellbutrin, I actually took off a few pounds (I don't know,

though, if Effexor is specific for post-partum depression).

Antidepressent question for post-ops

I am pre-op and have been taking Effexor for about a year now. The whole

depression thing kicked in soon after my daughter was born (post-partum

depression that never went away.)

Anyways, I gained about 40 lbs. after starting this medication and my PCP

says it's due to the meds. If I have the DS, will I lose that weight even

though the meds contributed to a lot of weight gain recently??

I have read that people have been able to get off antidepressents

during/after WLS. Why is this?? Is it simply because they feel better

since

they have lost weight or is there a physiological thing going on??

I can't imagine being able to get off these things - if miss a single day, I

turn into a mad woman!

Kathy,

Let's put it this way:my surgery was 7/13/01. I lost 14 lb. pre-op and 71

lb. post op (71 lb in 4 months). That's with me on Wellbutrin. Would I have

lost more or less off it, I don't know. But I think the loss is quite

satisfactory one way or another (I started at 281, and am down to 196 as of

today!).
