Now everything does I was going thru that...I took Flagyl for 7 days and had no problems with it...not even the metal taste some talk about. The side effect that is most prominent is the staying away from alcohol...even the smell from what my dr said. It can make you violently ill. I would try it...and then start on the good bacteria that Judie talks about...I'm off the Flagyl right now but starting to get gas and I am going to do another week and do the good bacteria...I was going to do it this time and forgot it...oh well...I'm paying the piper...LOL ~*~ AJ ~*~ Age 37 5'8'' Post op 7/24/01 Open DS self pay - Dr Baltasar -Alcoy Spain 07/24/01 BMI 64 415.1 08/24/01 BMI 58 386.5 -28.6 lbs! 09/24/01 BMI 55.8 367.1 -48.0 lbs! -37.75 inches 10/24/01 BMI 52.6 346.0 -69.1 lbs! 11/05/01 BMI 51.0 337.0 -78.1lbs! -63 inches My profile: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=E982002956 My websites: www.wls4aj.homestead.com www.wlsbellingham.homestead.com

Guest guest
Diane, Ijust finished a 30-day regime of 3 x 250 mg of Flagyl daily for just what you are experiencing: gas. it seems that by around 2 PM every day, I got really bloated with gas. The Flagyl seems to have worked. I still bloat a little bit, but nothing like before. Flagyl's side effects can (and should) be minimized by taking Acidophius mixed cultures several times a day. That way, you re-populate your gut with the " good' bacteria that are also killed off by Flagyl. also, some folks report a metallic taste in their mouths from taking Flagyl. I did not ecperienct that, but I found it to be bitter as all getout for a few minutes after swallowing the pill. I learned to stick it way back in my mouth and gulp it down fast to minimize the bitterness. I was taking a generic brand, and maybe the pills were not coated at all to minimize that effect. BTW, my PCP was incredulous that anybody would be taking Flagyl for other than a genital infection. " Who gave you the Flagyl? [ " My surgeon " ] " Why did he give you that?' [ " Because I asked him to do so. " ] " Where did you hear that Flagyl was good for gas? " [ " On the DS and DS_PostOpFriends lists! I asked her then if I could call her instead of my PCP if I needed flagyl etc. She said yes, no problem. She was familiar with flagyl and acidioph...whatever it is and very receptive to my dealing with her. So I think a gastroenterologist is more familiar with these things. I went thru the same thing with our pcp trying to get him to prescribe flagyl for Mike and when he wouldnt do it, went over his head and had Welker prescribe it at our pharmacy! Our pcp's truly do not know as much about this as we do! Feels good to educate them, doesnt it? (some of them feel very intimidated when you know more than they do!) Mine said that he'd prescribe it if I insisted, but that he'd prefer that my surgeon proscribe it. That was at around 3 months post-op. Then, around 6 months, he must have forgotten that conversation because he wondered why in the heck and how in the heck I got Flagyl. >Our pcp's truly do not know as much about this as we do! And, why would they? They hardly know about the RnY,let alone the platinum alternative! >Feels good to educate them, doesnt it? ( Feels even better when they are willing to listen. >some of >them feel very intimidated when you know more than they do!) Nahhh! I really do not know more than my PCP does. I just am much more familiar with my particulars than he is. But, I still need him to manage my overall health--I keep reminding him of this when he tries to retreat into statements of ignorance about the DS--and I am more than willing to give him printed articles and/or fill in the blanks as long as he is willing to listen. Since he was the one to bring up " stomach stapling " in the first place, and since the proof of the pudding is in my now noticeable weight loss (he finally congratulated me on achieving my " many milestones " ), he seems quite willing to listen, and learn. And, I use him as a sounding board for some of the things that my surgeon is thinking about, such as going on Phentirimine to speed up my slow weight loss--my PCP agreed with my sense that this is a non-starter. Funny, but after I reminded my surgeon that I have cardiac arrhythmia, my surgeon agreed that this was not a good idea, either. Nobody can know everything. Life is about learning. My PCP and I are partners in keeping me healthy. As long as he upholds his part of the partnership--and he surely does--I remain a most satisfied customer. --Steve --
Guest guest
Nobody can know everything. Life is about learning>>>> thats true Steve, but our pcp was against the surgery to begin with and gave in when he saw we were going to go ahead with it, with or without his blessing! He insisted there were over the counter remedies for gas and would not prescribe the flagyl which is why we had Welker do it for us. I have a question now.....whats the difference between ferrous sulfate and ferrous gluconate (iron)?????? Judie
Guest guest
Ferrous sulfate is prone to cause constipation & nausea. Ferrous gluconate does not cause this problem, nor does it (I'm told) cause nausea. I have heard that ferrous fumarate is the form best absorbed.
