Guest guest
Hi Eileen, Like you I have always been told Celiac Disease is genetic and an auto-immune disease. Dr. Green is my diagnosing MD for celiac and was likewise for my children. My older grandchildren were screened, biopsied and diagnosed by Dr. Fasano in land. We were part of various research studies over the past 20 years and always told there were many of us due to genetics. No doctor ever questioned the delivery methods for any of us and no one in our family was born by C/S. Interesting the study found only a relationship between C/S and celiac but none with Crohns or other inflammatory bowel diseases. Not sure what to think about this though my newest grandchild--just turned 1 on Monday. She has been maintained gluten-free for the year in keeping with the theory now that no gluten in the first year might delay early development/or possibly any development of celiac disease. She certainly has genetics tipped against her but we will see how she does. My daughter may continue to with hold gluten from her diet for an additional year. Her pediatrician has other patients with celiac disease in their families on the same regimen. So much is really unknown.....interesting though. I am really more concerned with early diagnosis and correct diet as a way to prevent many of the issues those of us have who were not diagnosed until middle or late adulthood. Diagnosed early, celiac is not so bad and the diet easily becomes a "way of life". Gen
