Guest guest
More questions . . . << The epidural comes highly recommended though, as it really worked for me. >> When the epidural was wearing off, did you get itchy?? Is this the standard method for Dr. Anthone (epidural vs. pump?) Why do we have to have an NG tube (the nose one?) I think that would really bug me too! I'm confused about the difference between a " J " tube and a " JG " tube - what's the difference? THANKS!

Dr. Hess typically takes it out after 24 hours. He didn't mention it on the next morning after surgery, and knowing that it prevents nausea, I was in no hurry to get it out. He did put in orders to take it out the second day though. I was very afraid of getting nauseous, so I did not bug anyone to take it out. It was nice to get it out, but I wanted to be cautious. Guest guest
The only reason I'm a little worried about the NG tube is that when I wore the CPAP mask, I got darned near claustrophobic -- I worry a little that I'll get that feeling in spades w/the NG tube. Then again, I'll be so darn drugged...heck, throw in a little Valium to calm me down if I try to rip it out.. ~alyssa Re: My surgical experiencwe > Yes, this is my understanding about the NG tube. Guest guest
OK, Yes, Dr. Anthone uses the epidural as his standard method. Not all surgeons do. Yes I did feel itching on my back for about a day. I will take the itching over the pain any day. Others have answered regarding the NG tube and the need to remove bile from the stomach. Dr. Anthone is more conservative in others by leaving it in until day 3. The J-tube and JG-tube are nearly identical tubes on the opposite sides of the belly button. The JG tube is for draining the area where the gall bladder used to be (the right side). The J-tube is for the intestines. The JG tube is removed prior to leaving the hopsital, while the J-tube is left it. Again, not all surgeons do it this way. Anthone is very conservative.
