Yes, it is partially to prevent nausea after surgery. I was in no hurry to

get mine out knowing this.

I never had an NG tube or anything else in my nose or throat. I had

two JP Drains in my abdomen that came out before I left the hospital

and a urine catheter for the first night after surgery. What's the

purpose of the NG tube anyway?

Hey Carol,

I see you are doing the see sawing thing like I am! Laughing...it

doesn't get better, it just gets different. From daytime to night

time, my thoughts are all over the place. I'll tell you one thing.

NO ONE will take my place next monday. I may be shaking in my boots,

but I am gonna be there!

As for the NG tube, my doc said I will wake up with no tubes or

drains in me, period, except for a catheter. I think every single

doc is different!

Hugs,

Theresa

Im having my surgery on 11/19. I questioned Dr Macura about the ng

tube because of the nasal mask I use for the CPAP machine. He says

that they are taken out after the operation. He finds that the tubes

do not do the job after surgery

Congratulations on your surgical date! Would you care to become a

switch quadruplet with us? So far we have Sheryl, Kathy P, and

myself with the following morning. I will remember you in

my prayers and wishing you well. Seems we have the whole country

covered so maybe we can blanket the planet with good vibes for all of

us!

Hugs and good health,

theresa

I used a CPAP also and used the type of mask that only covered the nose.

Dr. Macura didn't take out the NG tube until the day after surgery. So in

the Recovery Room the nurses had to send for the full mask (covers nose and

mouth) because I couldn't fit the other mask over the NG tube. Unless Dr. M

has changed his routine and takes the tube out immediately, just ask the

nurses for the full mask.
