I'm at the very early stages of the diet right now, and I had a question about

the type of cooking I can be doing at this point?

Right now, as far as meat is concerned, I have been eating chicken, and beef

patties. The chicken I had boiled with the soup, and the beef patties I broiled

in the oven. I'm all out of ground beef and the already cooked chicken. I have

some chicken breasts in the fridge. It doesn't really mention in the book the

methods of cooking.

Can I steam them, roast them in the oven, or grill them on the pan? Are these

methods allowed at this point?

Joe, you can cook it any of those ways. Charred might be a little hard on the system. by the way, I'm about 30 minutes from you if you need to know where to buy things in our area. Katy

Great, thanks. I'll keep that in mind. When you say good places for the area, is

there anywhere specific in the area that's good for Scd? I know when I was doing

the gluten free diet, there was a great bakery nearby.

Also, what should I cook it in if I'm grilling in the pan? olive oil? And what

about seasoning?

Keep in mind, I'm only about a week in.

Don't mean to bombard you with questions, here.

Also, what should I cook it in if I'm grilling in the pan? olive oil? And what about seasoning?I use butter, ghee, or coconut oil usually, since they can withstand higher heat. Generally though, most oils should be fine at any point in the diet as far as advanced-ness and legality =) Most seasonings I would think would be fine as long as they are singe herbs/spices or homemade mixtures. I'd just avoid anything too strong or spicy at this point, because that could probably be a little harsher on the gut. I think some herbs might be your best bet, and some salt. That's what I would do, anyways =) Cheers!Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 75 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 22.5 mg 1x per day

The pecanbread.com stages suggest broiling or boiling in the early stages. Baked isn't suggested until stage 2, and pan fried at stage 3. Just suggestions, though you might want to take a look at the stages list, it gives a good idea of what ways to cook food are easiest to digest at first.

The stages are only suggestions.  I could not stand the smell of things cooking--especially hamburger patties so I broiled/baked/braised almost everything and still do.  Now I will boil stovetop or if cooking liver <g>, I will pan fry and finish off in the oven because I don't like too much pink.

So basically depending on where you start.  Follow the stages if the smell or whatever doesn't bother you.  I think that's what stopped me from eating bacon (I still seldom eat pork) because of the heavy grease afterward.
