Hey guys! I just sent a very lengthy and specific email to Applegate

Farms inquiring about their products and requesting a letter on their

company letterhead. Please send your good thoughts and prayers in the

direction of Applegate in hopes that the right person will receive it,

and we will get a letter confirming their hot dogs are legal!!

Cheers!

I know that the folks on Pecanbread have inquired before this, and the

problem is following the chain up -- which hot dog formulation are we

talking about? Where did the spices come from? What about the ones like

onion and garlic powder which often have anti-caking stuff in them, and

so on and so forth.

Good luck.

I hope the parents on pecanbread have inundated them with letters. This kind of

product can make a huge difference in the life of a kid... camping, birthday

parties, college kids in a dorm.... It would open a big market for them.

The consensus was that Applegate is iffy. Applegate apparently

could not provide information which was satisfactory, so it apparently

remains a " use at your own risk. "

And yes, hot dogs can be important. Which is why (ta-dah!) I make my

own.... although, at nine years on SCD, I will acknowledge that I have

used Applegate once in awhile, but not as a regular part of my

diet.

I, on the other hand, as I just wrote re: Alyssa's letter, have no problem

at all eating Applegates uncured hot dogs. But I only ever eat one at a

time! I do eat them quite regularly for lunch, however.

Right -- and I have used them occasionally. However, for those who are in

the process of serious healing, it's probably better to avoid these

altogether, since we cannot verify what's in them.

I do realize that when we are in the early stages of the diet that this

is precisely when we'd just about kill to have something -- anything! --

that we wouldn't have to prepare from scratch.

Unfortunately, the early stages are precisely when we most need to keep

repeating the SCD mantra of " Make your own. Make your own. Make your

own. "

(BTW, Alyssa, very good letter.)

Alyssa,

It is not time wasted. If they get enough letters, they may want to make the

effort to make their hot dogs legal. They are only a few steps from a product

that would have a good market. Every one of us SCD ers would buy them along with

every family on pecanbread.

Every letter counts- even if they don't respond at the moment with a legal

product, maybe they will consider it.
