Now, the things I'm about to type we can all either laugh over or get

angry, so let's laugh and just call it all typical " stuff happens " .

Ok, Dallas County and Tarrant County, the two closest counties to me,

have been having major vaccine clinics filling the news. No mention of

Collin County. Now understand we do have 800,000 people. Now most of

these clinics were for uninsured and poor but still headlines. Nothing

for Collin. Oh, the state even put in a 211 number to call and I did and

nothing. Then the city and county said they should have something so I

find out they don't include private doctors.

Ok, the Dallas News uses open records to find who shipments have gone

to. I call all my doctors and many others on the list and none have

received any.

Well, Dallas County now distributes them to pharmacies. Walgreens,

Walmart, Target, Kroger, Tom Thumb all now have H1N1 vaccines,

throughout Dallas county. I'm only about 3 or 4 miles from the nearest

listed. Well, just one problem. They can only give them to citizens of

Dallas County and I live three miles too far North.

So, I call more. Still none of my doctors have received any. But turns

out a huge amount has been shipped just recently to a place called

Passport Health. They do all sorts of vaccines. My doctors none, but

they are making appointments. So today I go there and get my shot.

I would suggest any of you who have searched in vain to check them out

as they are nationwide. I don't blame anyone for the distribution issues

because I gave up being angry over things like that I can't change and

just are what they are. But I do find it funny that first those getting

assistance from the county (poor and uninsured) can gt them and no one

else can and then I can't get one because I live a bit north of the

county border and then none of my huge number of doctors have them but a

passport health and vaccine office got loads. Now that I do have mine, I

expect all my doctors and every pharmacy in my county to get them. I'm

just glad I found a place to get mine.

As always, the watchword is to be your own best advocate. Took me a month to

tract down the vaccine. I was turned down once because they were only giving to

babies and pregnant mothers. When I called a few days later to inquire about it

I was told I needed to cite CDC rules and explain the the people that I was

indeed an 'at risk' group member. I was told (when I called those few days

later) that I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TURNED AWAY. When I found a place that had

the vaccine, I made an appointment (would have driven over as soon as possible

if I would have had to) to get the shot and promptly called my husband (who has

asthma, another member of the at-risk group). He and I both have had our flu

shots (seasonal and H1N1). Keep pushing, the shots are out there!!

It sure sounds like one big mess to me. I have two grandchildren with swine flu. One in the hospital

and is normal for her she also has pnewmonia. The VA in Michigan still has no swine flu shots.

I have read where maybe 50,000 shots have reached the U. S. I would have a difficult time giving any agency or contractor a "D" for this performance. Burns

I completely agree this is the most poorly organized public health "effort" I have ever seen. The VA in Michigan has no H1N1 vaccine as you say and here in NC it's available (to high risk groups only) in pharmacies. It's in CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger, Teeter all the chain stores with pharmacies in my area have it.

You would think that the VA would get it ahead of Walmart wouldn't you? These are things that make me just shake my head.
