Guest guest
Thank you - did not think to look at digestive wellness - if I can not find it at local health food store without " extras " I will look there. > > > Look for Vanilla with no sugar or natural flavorings in it. Also corn starch is added to it alot for some reason which would make it illegal as well. I've found it very hard to find in the store. Personally, I either make my own or get it from digestivewellness.com Pretty cheap there, it's good (i've used it) and it's legal > > Hope this helps! > > - > UC - 1+ years > SCD - 11 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet. > Colazol - 9 pills a day > Prednisone 25mg > entocort With vit E mixed in > Back to intro/stage 1 for now. > > > > > > > > > > > To: BTVC-SCD > From: willowcreek09@... > Date: Sat, 22 May 2010 22:12:17 +0000 > Subject: vanilla > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I wanted to make veggie muffins and it called for vanilla. Guest guest
Your health food store might have frontier brand vanilla. That one is also in WFs. Guest guest
http://tipnut.com/vanilla-oil/ gives a recipe for vanilla oil, using one bean. I suspect you might be able to get a stronger vanilla flavor in the oil by scraping the seeds out and all the rest of that sort of thing, likewise using additional beans. Perhaps this would be a solution to your dilemma. Marilyn Ah, this sounds good! I will look both for a commercial one in glycerin, and this recipe sounds fine. I'm with you, I think I'd put a good deal more vanilla in it, though! Next order to Penzeys I'll get some vanilla beans. I may have one around but it would be an antique now. Guest guest
When you can, making vanilla is super simple. You will need 1 quart of vodka (I used Abosolut) at least 6 Vanilla beans 1 quart Mason jar Cut a slit halfway down all of the beans. Use your knife to kind of loosen up the pulp. Put in your mason jar. Fill with vodka. Let sit, shaking daily for at least 6 weeks. Use 12 pods of you want double strength vanilla (next time I'll do that). I've been having the same quart of vanilla for a very long time. The alcohol preserves the vanilla beans. You can top off the mason jar with more vodka as you use it. You can even buy some liquid glycerin to add to a small container to put your vanilla in so it pours a little slower. I think that's why they put the glycerin in some of the vanilla. Guest guest
<g> The vanilla doesn't have bourbon in it - that is the name of the species of vanilla bean - from Bourbon Island, named by the French. Mara Oh, much better! I'll look when I get there then. Of course vanilla made in bourbon sounds pretty good!
Guest guest
Whoops! I was combing the Trader Joe's vanilla with stuff I'd read about making your own vanilla with bourbon: http://www.ehow.com/how_2187709_homemade-vanilla-extract-using-bourbon.html Oh, and I've bought some very nice vanilla beans on ebay. I got them through this seller: http://myworld.ebay.com/vanillaproducts Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > <g> The vanilla doesn't have bourbon in it - that is the name of the > species of vanilla bean - from Bourbon Island, named by the French. > > Mara
