I just starred out my address and such since there are 1500 people I don't know who could possibly read this =) Sorry it's so long...I just wanted to include everything! I hope someone actually reads this.AlyssaBegin forwarded message:Date: May 27, 2010 10:09:41 PM EDTTo: help@...Subject: Starches/sugars in organic hot dogs Hi! My name is Alyssa Luck, my address is ************, and my home phone number is ********. I'm sorry I don't have a lot code or expiration date, but I'm not really inquiring about a specific product that I bought. I am on a diet called the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), on which we can't have any starches or sugars. This isn't a weight loss diet, rather it's a diet for ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, ASD, and other psychological and digestive issues. This is a very restrictive diet, and we all must make most of our food ourselves because a tiny bit of something that is not allowed on the diet can set off major reactions for us that have lasting effects, and it can sabotage much of the effort that we all put into this. The products I'm interested in of yours are the Organic Beef Hot Dogs, Organic Chicken Hot Dogs, and the Organic Turkey Hot Dogs. These products don't appear to have anything that isn't allowed on the SCD, but due to labeling laws and many bad experiences of people trying to follow the diet, we have found we can't trust the labels on products. Therefore, for a commercial product to be deemed 'legal' on the diet, we must have a written letter on the company's letterhead assuring us that there are no ingredients in the food that we can't have. The ingredients that concern me are the "Spices," Garlic Powder, and Onion Powder. This is because many companies will hide things like sugar under a label of "Spices," and many onion and garlic powders have anti-caking agents such as corn starch that are detrimental to us following the SCD. Here is a list of things that we absolutely can NOT have, and I would LOVE it if you could assure me there aren't any of these in your products =)Aloe VeraCarrageenanCorn StarchDextroseFood GlazeFOSFructoseGuar GumGums of any kindInulinMaltodextrinMannitolMastic GumNatural FlavorsRice BranRice FlourSlippery ElmSorbitolStarch of any kindSucraloseSugars of any kindTapioca FlourXanthan GumXylitolIf you would be so kind as to send me a letter on your company's letterhead stating that there is no starch, no sugar, no gums, and none of the above additives in your organic Beef, Chicken, and Turkey hot dogs, I would be so appreciative. You would also need to state that there are no 'manufacturing aides' used in your product, such as corn starch to prevent sticking. I'm so sorry to sound so uptight and persnickety about this, but many people on this diet have become very ill due to companies lying about what is really in their products. Even if something is not an 'ingredient' in a product, but is just a 'manufacturing aide,' we are still ingesting it and it still causes damage. I'm also a member of multiple Yahoo groups related to this diet, with total members adding to over 7,000 people. If these products turn out to be safe for us on the diet. we would all be so thankful to have additional things to eat! It can be tiring having to make everything from scratch, and being able to just go out and buy a ready made product is a real treat! I would also post your letter on multiple SCD related websites deeming your products okay, where thousands more people can access it and buy your products. If after reading all the things we can't eat, your products turn out to not be okay for us, I would still appreciate an email response telling me so. Some people on this diet have tried your products because the labels appear to be okay, and if people continue to do so when the products aren't really okay for us, it could really hurt their progress and their health. I apologize for being so long winded and insistent about this; it would just really mean such a lot to so many people to have a letter confirming that your products are okay! Also, if any of your products other than your organic hot dogs meet these requirements as well, it would be fantastic if you could also include their names! Thanks again so much for reading this, and considering sending a letter!Sincerely, Alyssa Luck
Guest guest
That's a great, detailed, extremely upbeat and friendly letter. You covered everything from what I could tell (sheesh, we almost need a lawyer on board lol). You did a really great job! Now if they will just sign off on company letterhead...I'm sure you'll enjoy having a nice, non-homemade hotdog. It does get old cooking everything from scratch and eating at home. Thank you, Debbie 41 cd Here's what I sent to Applegate. Guest guest
I agree totally. I just wonder how many responses you'd get since if they lie, they are putting someone's health at risk. The legal department may have a problem with it. Wouldn't it be funny to send this to Starbuck's? Very hard to find their info on-line. Debbie 41 cd It's a great letter, Alyssa. Well written. I hope that's the case. I already eat their uncured beef hot dogs very regularly (I don't like the chicken and turkey ones) and find they work well for me, but I'm eating more advanced stuff than many people here. n > > Begin forwarded message: > >> >> Date: May 27, 2010 10:09:41 PM EDT >> To: help@... >> Subject: Starches/sugars in organic hot dogs >> >> Hi!
