Guest guest
Hi all, I've been attempting the SCD candida-elimination diet (I have a few minor yeast symptoms but nothing major) and have had no honey, very little cheese, and not even much yogurt for the past couple of weeks. I've tried 400% diluted lemon juice, and even a few sips of it makes me almost immediately bloated, and sometimes have frothy BMs right after. A whole glass of 400% diluted grape juice, however, seems to be fine. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience with lemon juice (it's 100% pure organic lemon juice from Whole Foods). Would this mean I do or don't have a yeast problem, or is it too difficult to tell? Thanks, W. Guest guest
Hey, I really don't know, and I'm hoping someone who does will chime in, but from what I know that's a little wierd, lemon is traditionally considered easier to tolerate with candida than sweeter fruits like grape. Anywho, I would seriously be trying fresh squeezed lemon juice and not store bought. Best! Guest guest
Hi, I don't have candida (as far as I know), but I recently tried juicing half a lemon in water (very close to your 400% diluted juice). Within an hour, I had cramping (which I haven't had in months) followed by D. I was told that this is normal, and that you need to start with a very small amount of lemon juice, and gradually work up to half a lemon. So long story short, your reaction shouldn't have anything to do with candida. But your lemon juice may not be legal, so it would be safer to juice your own. Guest guest
Are you drinking lemon juice, even diluted, with food or on its own? If you’re having it by itself, then it just might be triggering peristalsis which causes the BM. Vitamin C does that. There’s also a chance that there is something in the commercial juice, so you might do better making your own. I can’t have lemon juice in water by itself, even if I have some just before or just after a meal. It causes severe stomach distress for me, followed by my other chronic upper GI symptoms. I put lemon or lime juice in my applesauce instead, or use it in baking. I was successful in eliminating high candida levels even without using diluted lemon juice alone, or antifungals for that matter. So you can still be successful even if you don’t tolerate it by itself. I’d pay attention to your body’s signals; not all of us can tolerate the same things. Kim M. Well, first of all, if you're going to be using organic lemon juice, you should be using organic lemons and making your own. To the best of my knowledge, there is no legal bottled lemon juice. Remember, just because something says " organic " does not mean it is SCD legal. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
I saw this product at WF too, advertised as 100%pure. It would be nice to try to get a letter from them. Who knows? Still, try with fresh lemons.Even a legal product can effect you differently fresh vs frozen. Guest guest
Yikes! Are you guys talking about the Santa Cruz Organic Lemon Juice? It states " 100% Juice NOT FROM CONCENTRATE " on the bottle so I figured it was okay (as long as we dilute it)... Their ingredients say " Organic Lemon Juice " . I use their lime juice as well. Is this an illegal? -Joanna > > >Just wondering if anyone else has had this > > >experience with lemon juice (it's 100% pure > > >organic lemon juice from Whole Foods). > > > > Well, first of all, if you're going to be using > > organic lemon juice, you should be using organic > > lemons and making your own. Guest guest
Thanks everyone! I thought the WF juice would be okay since the ingredients are " organic lemon juice " and that's it, but I'm definitely going to buy some lemons in the store today to try out in a few days. Perhaps it was the juice, or the amount, or a combination of both. Stacey, come to think of it, I have squeezed a slice of lemon into a 16 oz. glass of water and don't remember having any problems with that, maybe because it was sooo diluted (and it was a real lemon! ) Kim M, I have been having it on its own. I'll try it with food next time, and if these next trials don't work, I'll just try to incorporate it into my cooking like you did! Thanks, W. I know ELaine never approved it, and I haven't seen a letter from the company clearing it.... — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
