Guest guest
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on Tulane. I am born, raised snd lived in New Orleans upto 4 months ago. My experience was bad. My doctor there wad Dr.Nereyda Parada and she diagnosed me with asthma in Jan 2009. After first chest x ray, she had the craziness to tell me that my lower lungs showed somwthing weird but not of major importance....prescribed me regimen of asthma meds that never worked. Well to make a long story short, had lung biopsy in SC and was correctly diagnosed with ILD Nov 13, 2009 Sometimes hospitals are well known and doctors are CRAP... Good Luck!! Guest guest
Its good to have all information shared. I did not initially choose to go to Tulane in 2008 because I heard that their program still was behind some of the other IPF centers due to aftermath of Katrina. During the period their activities had all been shifted to UAB. Now, to balance, I do know several people who go to Dr. Lasky at Tulane and are quite pleased. But he is the head of the unit. On the other hand I have one issue even there in that the two I'm sure of were both put on Enbrel, which is approved for connective tissue and not PF. He is involved though in the Enbrel clinical trials. They did not sound as if they'd been fully informed of the fact is was being prescribed off label and was not generally being prescribed in the same way at other facilities. That said, I would see possible hope in Enbrel. The facility also failed to submit the prescriptions in such as way as to get it approved. They finally in both cases went back and rewrote them as Rheumatoid Arthritis rather than PF or Rheumatoid Lung or other. The doctor you mention is head of Tulane's Allergy Management Clinic and her areas of interest are Asthma, Sarcoidosis, and COPD. So while you may have been very close to PF expertise, its clear the doctor you saw wasn't an expert nor apparently knowledgeable enough to involve one. Of the eleven Pulmonologists there, Dr. Lasky is the only one that their site associates with Interstitial Lung Diseases. So, at the least what you point out is that even if these hospitals have expertise, one needs to make sure they get to that. That can be an issue, especially if you're not previously diagnosed and sent specifically for an ILD. I know if you just went to UTSW here with a general lung problem you would probably find yourself with a resident or a generalist and could very well not ever see one of the experts in Interstitial Lung Disease. This isn't the first time we've seen such as this. Lou was seeing someone at the University of Richmond. Ultimately we figured out it was a resident. He was very kind and came to her home and she liked him. But, he didn't have her get regular echocardiograms and he didn't recognize the signs of PH developing. Only when we insisted she tell them to give her an echo did she get one. But it had been several years and the PH was quite advanced. Unfortunately you didn't know which doctor you needed because you were looking for a diagnosis. For those who do have a diagnosis, we need to be sure we get to the right doctor at the right facility. While Tulane is an IPF Center of Excellence, Dr. Parada is not in the area of Interstitial Lung Diseases. I'm being sent for more opinions as if 20 doctors in two years isn't enough and will go early in the year. Based on my knowledge of the centers and based on my Rheumatologist's strong opinions of various Rheumatology departments, I will be going to Duke even though UTSW is 25 miles away and Tulane, UAB, Emory, Vanderbilt, and U of Chicago are closer. I feel like this is my last great effort to see if anyone can figure out what the others are confused over. If it was for IPF only, then based on experiences here my other choice would be National Jewish. But I am also fortunate in having friends with whom I can discuss Duke and the various doctors there and that I know enough about my condition in advance to try to get directed to the right ones. > > Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on Tulane. Guest guest
Thanks for giving that wee glimpse into your daily life Gita...of course now I want to know what you like to cook...what are your 'specialities'????? I can picture you teaching Mathematics..you sound as though you have a beautifully 'ordered' & logical mind. I love how Maths & Music are so connected. I was hopeless at Primary School Maths but started to love the subject in Secondary School where it all made a lot more sense to me. I managed to do one year of Pure Maths at Uni level but dropped it in favour of English Literature & History subjects. I can't remember any of it now but I'm sure it made some great pathways in my brain that are still in use even to this day! Now I am an Outdoors girl...... but only in Winter....or in the cool summer climate of Tasmania...otherwise I hide from the sun & live tucked away inside my cool, spacious old weatherboard house. I come out onto my vernadahs only in the cool of the early morning or very late in the evenings when the sun has gone down. It's a joke within my family & friends that they have to think up something REALLY enticing to get me out of my house! I'm surrounded by my Books & Music on tap! Don't do much housework I have to admit....only when it SCREAMS at me! I also want to know what you like to read & watch on Tele (are you a Bollywood movie fan??)...aren't I a curiosity cat! It's just that I love to build up 'mind' pictures.....it brings you closer! lots of love, > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > Another round of pft's and a visit to my pulmo....I'm> > stable!> > > > My> > > > > > diffusion is back where it had been (last time's lousy> > resultÂ> > > > > was> > > > > > a fluke) and I remain stable. My next appointment isn't> > till> > > > > March> > > > > > so I've got a few months to chill.Â> > > > > > > > > I am very happy this afternoon.> > > > > > > > > Thankfully yours!> > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > Beth> > > > > > > > > Moderator> > > > > > > > > Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Dermatomyositis 11/08> > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > >> > > >> > >> >>
Guest guest
, I can understand your curiousity. While it is easy for us to know about your lives it is ot so easy for you to kow about Indian way of life. We have 3meals a day on an average ad everythig is home cooked and nothing is from cans everythig is generally freshly cooked including our flat breads called chappatis. So I cook breakfast, lunch and dinner myself ,for both of us. My son and his wife come over sometimes on weekends. We do eat out occasionally.The younger generation is slowly giving up cookig and weering towards the western ways. We are pure vegetarians and do not consume even eggs. But we do have milk and its products. We eat a lot of rice ad chappatis with curries ad lentils called dal. I like our simple home meals ,and when we were in the US we ejoyed all kids of cuisine, I enjoyed the pastas and the pizzas and tried mexican dishes too !though only the veg ones. I liked Thai green curry and soups. In music we used to enjoy pop music and Simon and Garfunkel, Beatels, Niel Diamond later , now beyonce and Sting , we also enjoy In dian music but reading comes before music . I finished most of the classics , i have also read authors like Steinbeck ad A.J Cronin, Daphne Du maurier , lighter authors like Grisham and Sydney Sheldon in short everythig that one could get to read. I have read all of Jeffery Archer's books. I watch serials like Monk, House, private practise, brothers and sisters, ABV, Net geo and our news channels somtimes I catch movies on HBO , Sony and other channels , Whenver there is cricket match I watch all of it I think I could go on and on and my post would be too long ad irritating for some here on the board , we could discuss this in private mails, i would love to know what you read. loVe you > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Another round of pft's and a visit to my pulmo....I'm > > > stable! > > > > > My > > > > > > > diffusion is back where it had been (last time's lousy > > > result > > > > > > was > > > > > > > a fluke) and I remain stable. My next appointment > isn't > > > till > > > > > > March > > > > > > > so I've got a few months to chill. > > > > > > > > > > I am very happy this afternoon. > > > > > > > > > > Thankfully yours! > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > Beth > > > > > > > > > > Moderator > > > > > > > > > > Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Dermatomyositis 11/08 > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Oooh that's good to read Geeta...now don't worry about irritating people on the Board with long e-mails..that's what the Delete Button is for...everybody can just choose what to read & what to ignore. I suspect there's more than me in our Air Family who'd love to hear of your lifestyle. How do you access your reading material? Do you use Libraries in Mumbai? I find India really interesting because of its complex history which of course has had a smattering of English involvement. How India has come to terms with all of that & made its own way into the present day. I've mentioned before that our regional communities have quite a few Indian people, mainly Sikhs...they're been here several generations now but still maintain their cultural traditions that we share in on the odd festive occasion. A lot of younger Indian professionals are here now working in our Hospitals & a lot are in Computer Service Industries. They're spread right across the cities & in the country areas & come from all parts of India. The earlier Sikh migrants mostly took up Bananna Farming. Chapatis are really yummy..my hubby likes hot chilli curries & Dhals but I like the breads & the cooler dishes. We include Indian cookling at home but it's never as good as the food from the Indian Restaurants here. For me, Indian food is always a Dinner Dish....what do you actually eat for a typical breakfast?????? Another thing...do you have to go out to Supermarkets for shopping or does your groceries/fresh food get delivered??????? I was watching an amazing clip of how Working people get their fresh hot Lunches sent out from their homes to their Offices..I think it was in Mumbai..how amazing was THAT! love, > > > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > Another round of pft's and a visit to my pulmo....I'm> > > > stable!> > > > > > My> > > > > > > > diffusion is back where it had been (last time's lousy> > > > resultÂ> > > > > > > was> > > > > > > > a fluke) and I remain stable. My next appointment> > isn't> > > > till> > > > > > > March> > > > > > > > so I've got a few months to chill.Â> > > > > > > > > > > I am very happy this afternoon.> > > > > > > > > > > Thankfully yours!> > > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > > Beth> > > > > > > > > > > Moderator> > > > > > > > > > > Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Dermatomyositis 11/08> > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > >> > > >> > >> >>

Re: Good news Hi HRH..I'm just back from 4 days in Brisbane on the Medical Testing Merri-go-Round....they start investigating one thing & it leads to a whole lots of other things! Right now if I was a car I wouldn't pass Rego! BUT......I feel just fine....still Deaf in my left ear...hearing horrid noises...balance all over the shop but HeY..BASICALLY I'm great! The latest is that as a result of searching for why I've gone deaf they looked in my Brain..found no reason for the Deafness but Hey I've got White Matter Flares all over the place..... So off to a Neurologist who orders all these expensive tests so now guess what.... they found I have a Hole in my Heart...been there since Birth....now I've got to do MORE blinkin' tets so they can work out whether to close it or not! ( a Transoesophageal Ecocardiogram) All because my EAR went Whoopy! Still don't know why I went DEAF! Oh & I've also got to go & find out why I'm walking around like some inebriated sot! That involves shoving things down my ears, hot & cold water & the like while I wear funny goggles & get sent into 3D land! Oh & expect to feel chunderous & you'll probably chuck so don't eat breakfast! Really looking forward to that day! But I feel GREAT...weird isn't it! I'll get my Toshi Roamer set up for tomorrow & we can give it a whirl....I'd love to have a chin wag! Guest guest
Yep I'd reckon it'd be the PH they'd want to jump on...the good thing there is that there are known medications to help. Your O2 is really important as well! I can relate to getting 'stuck' on the darn computer...time seems to just slip mysteriously by! Guest guest
, I had misesd this mail of yours and I will try to answer your queries. The source of my reading material has been different libraries . Before my marriage my father used to work for a chemical factory and the res. complex there had a lovely library which really stoked my interest in reading, later my college libraries satisfied this urge and now our community centre runs a library who sends someone along with the books of my choiceto my house, so you can say i have been lucky. my kids sepecially my daughter-in-law buys me books all the time . these days i read alot of indian authors who are quite interesting. Our british connection is largely resonsible for our reading habits and education i think of English as the 1st choice of langauge for a country very a no. of langauages are spoken i speak at least 3 laguages in everyday life . English, Hindi marathi(regional), kannada(mother tongue0 and so on. We have malls and supermarkets and small grocer shops too I do most of my work on the phone without stepping out of the house i can order my grocries and it is delivered within mins to the doorstep the milk, neswspaper fruits everything is at the doorstep! the doors of my house are open all the time , but we are in the suburbs , in the main city the apratments are the same as in the west but there too these facilities are available at the doorstep. which indian dish do you have at home for dinner? This unique system of delivering food to offices is the one of a kind thing in mumbai city. it is an amazing system wherby the lunche is collected from a home and delivered hot by lunch time no matter where the office is by a team of dabbawalas going through a highly skilful pattern being studied thes days my management gurus. even prince Charle was dumbstruck by this system you can google and read more about these mumbai dabbawala which means lunchbox guys. Guest guest
Geeta thanks for such an interesting description of life in your suburban area the area where I live has "books for the blind", people read and tape the books, people who are blind and people with dyslexiia get them via the mail, I learned about them when i worked in a nursing home and my 90 + year old aunt gets them my local library will deliver print books to the home, i have the information just in case I reach a point where i can't go to the library right now going to the library is one of my monthly outings i used to read a lot of family stories, now i read a lot of mysteries -- jonathan and sally kellerman, james patterson, etc we have a lot of "take out" restaurants, where you order the food and pick it up yourself we also have a lot of places that deliver the food i did read in a travel book that there are so many languages spoken in India, that the most common one is English if you meet someone on a train from a different section of the country, you can always communicate in English Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Re: Good newsTo: Breathe-Support Date: Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 12:33 PM ,I had misesd this mail of yours and I will try to answer your queries. The source of my reading material has been different libraries . Before my marriage my father used to work for a chemical factory and the res. complex there had a lovely library which really stoked my interest in reading, later my college libraries satisfied this urge and now our community centre runs a library who sends someone along with the books of my choiceto my house, so you can say i have been lucky. my kids sepecially my daughter-in- law buys me books all the time . these days i read alot of indian authors who are quite interesting. Our british connection is largely resonsible for our reading habits and education i think of English as the 1st choice of langauge for a country very a no. of langauages are spoken i speak at least 3 laguages in everyday life . English, Hindi marathi(regional) , kannada(mother tongue0 and so on.We have malls and supermarkets and small grocer shops too I do most of my work on the phone without stepping out of the house i can order my grocries and it is delivered within mins to the doorstep the milk, neswspaper fruits everything is at the doorstep!the doors of my house are open all the time , but we are in the suburbs , in the main city the apratments are the same as in the west but there too these facilities are available at the doorstep.which indian dish do you have at home for dinner? This unique system of delivering food to offices is the one of a kind thing in mumbai city. it is an amazing system wherby the lunche is collected from a home and delivered hot by lunch time no matter where the office is by a team of dabbawalas going through a highly skilful pattern being studied thes days my management gurus. even prince Charle was dumbstruck by this system you can google and read more about these mumbai dabbawala which means lunchbox guys.Hope you enjoy this as much as all your mails. How is you ear?Geeta> > > > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > Another round of pft's and a visit to my> pulmo....I'm> > > > > stable!> > > > > > > My> > > > > > > > > diffusion is back where it had been (last time's lousy> > > > > resultÂ> > > > > > > > was> > > > > > > > > a fluke) and I remain stable. My next appointment> > > isn't> > > > > till> > > > > > > > March> > > > > > > > > so I've got a few months to chill.Â> > > > > > > > > > > > I am very happy this afternoon.> > > > > > > > > > > > Thankfully yours!> > > > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > > > Beth> > > > > > > > > > > > Moderator> > > > > > > > > > > > Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Dermatomyositis 11/08> > > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > > > Â> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > >> > > >> > >> >>

What a difficult illness for such a young person to deal with. Congratulations to you for being such an involved grand parent. - > > I posted a couple of weeks ago as being New. My grand daughter (aged10 weighing 27 kilos) is the one with Chrons. She has been on the SCD for 2 weeks--- no more diarrhea, no more night fevers, increased energy and she called yesterday to say that she has gained 2 kilos! > AND she is starting to like her almond breads :-) > Thanks for the encouragement and ideas! > Hadassah >
Guest guest
Wow, that's fantastic. Kids often heal up the best, as in some cases, they have been sick a relatively short amount of time. Here's to continued success. Mara > I posted a couple of weeks ago as being New. My grand daughter (aged10 weighing 27 kilos) is the one with Chrons.
