Guest guest
Dot,I'm so glad that you finally gave in and went to the hospital(that's better than the alternative). And you got home for Thanksgiving. Just rest and recuperate now.Kathy IPF 10/09 Type 2 diabetes forever agoSubject: It all started with a pain on my lungTo: "breath support group" <Breathe-Support >Date: Monday, November 30, 2009, 2:46 PM Hi all, especially newbies-this will help you, i woke up 1 morning with a pain on my left lung. Any strain whatsoever, anytime i'd move & especially when i would cough that pain would jab my lung. Then i began to have even more shortness of breath & couldn't not even get out of my room/bed. The final straw was that i started to cough & had to give myself breathing treatments & up o2. So i checked to see if i had fever-none.. i'm in pain most of the time so it's hard to distinguish which is which..so while talking to Jan Pres of PFAT (texas) & as she heard me barely able to speak & cough she said CALL YOUR PULMO DR. She said the last time she had those symptoms she had pneumonia & was put in the hospital..Well, i called my Pulmo Dr. & said up your prednisone, take breathg treatment every 4 hrs & if no change go straight ER sounds like pneuomia. So after a very long night & a day later called Pulmo dr. he said go straight to ER-we need chest xray. But because of my stubborness i 1st went to my PCP-i thought it would be quicker-they told me the same thing...they said,we don't even need an xray..just by looking @ you..you have pneumonia..neverthe less at your request-chest xray...so there i go ER-Pneumonia- i entered hospital Sat @ 1pm didnt get out til Wednesday 5pm day before Thanksgiving & have been recuperating ever since. It was so strange...i really didn't feel ill..so please, next time-anytime you feel anything wrong..just call the DR. better safe than sorry. So now i'm going on 3 weeks of stir crazinessness. ..how the days 7 weeks pass us by. The pain is gone-hallelujah, but oh the downside of coming down that prednisone & all the antibiotics they put into your veins. My first night back, i though my ankles were gonna buckles, they were swollen & they ached as well as my joints on my knee caps. OUCH! Just wanted to share with you guys! I sure am eating like a pig..everything in sight! Do i breath or do i eat? Baby portions & lots of sweets later! Hey, but i was so thankful to be home for Thanksgiving, even if i was just at home! Now i'm dealing with the jitters that are slowly coming out of my system as the days of prednisone are lowered. It was also hard to sleep but again...just getting all back one day @ a time. I'm glad that i'm alive TODAY & that I can share this with you guys! Love ya keep posting! Ask away. Do you what the funny thing was about not wanting to call the dr or go to the hospital? My first excuse before was i don't have $$, but i don't have that excuse anymore, then then 2nd was i was so traumatized from my last stay in the hospital-that i never want to ever go to a hospital again, but then I thought, it's Thanksgiving i don't want to be in the hospital during the holidays, i'll just wait. I have an appt with my pcp following week anyway. What a dummy! I could of died! And, thankfully, my dr was wonderful & tended to me daily as well as the nurses & staff @ the hospital! They really made me feel so welcome & took very good care of me! I actually had peace being in the hospital. I guess in the newness of it all..i realized that when i get sick, i call the dr, i go to the hospital, they fix me then i go home & do as i'm told to take care of the problem and then i get better. Sorry for rambling but i hope this will help you too. Thanks Jan for your input-your wonderful! Dot/uip 10/08/Sa,TX/

Guest guest
Dot, I don't want to discourage you but it can take quite a long time to recover from a nasty infection like the one you had. Someone posted here recently that their doctor told them to expect it to take up to a year to get back to where they were before a pneumonia. When you start getting out, do so in very short steps. Little outings, little exertions and build up very gradually. If you have an opportunity to do a pulmonary rehab program, do that. It can help you recover faster but with the safety net that you need right now. You are vulnerable and if you push to hard, too fast you can end up right back where you started from. Please look after yourself! Guest guest
Yes, Ms Joyce, lesson HARD learned. He always told me to be careful & watch if i got a fever...but i never did? i don't think i've had a fever for a year..it must be the meds? not sure? I think my Dr.'s wil be hearing from me quite often. My Pulmo Dr. told me since day 1...go to ER..and he has ALWAYS emphasized to me how we can't afford for me to get pneumonia..and here i got it anyway..even after getting the pneumonia shot..can you imagine if i hadn't gotten the pneumonia shot..GOSH! BUT..i'm still KICKING~ HALLELUJAH!! Sorry for rambling but i hope this will help you too. Thanks Jan for your input-your wonderful! Dot/uip 10/08/Sa,TX/
Guest guest
Dorothy, It took me almost 4 months to get back to what I thought was " normal" after acute bronchitis that landed me in the hospital in March! In fact now I still have new inflammation in my lungs that the docs attribute to that same problem and I have had my Prednisone dose doubled and my Imuran increased too. Don't be hard on yourself..our bodies just take so-o-o-o much longer to heal. Z fibriotic NSIP/05 Z 65, fibriotic NSIP/05/PA And “mild†PH/10/07 No, NSIP was not self-inflicted…I never smoked! By they way ...do you know just how long it takes to recover from pneumonia? I'm still having hard time breathing. I don't want to get out too fast, but 3 weeks is a long time to be cooped up..  Dot/42/uip10/08/sa,tx From: Beth <mbmurtha (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> Subject: Re: It all started with a pain on my lung To: Breathe-Support Date: Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 7:54 AM  Dot, Wow, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that. It doesn't pay to be stubborn does it? It's so easy to get into that mindset of waiting just a little while longer to see if things will clear up on their own and honestly if we were normal healthy adults that would be a reasonable thing to do. The problem is, none of us is "normal or healthy" at least where our lungs are concerned.  Please look after yourself and feel better!  Beth Moderator Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Dermatomyositis 11/08   From: Dorothy Delarosa <ddmhogc (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> To: breath support group <Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com> Sent: Mon, November 30, 2009 5:46:13 PM Subject: It all started with a pain on my lung  Hi all, especially newbies-this will help you, i woke up 1 morning with a pain on my left lung.
