MB... Guess I've ended up with the color blue. I tried green and then olive. Oh well.

Doc didn't say 'what' he thought the additional pain in joints and legs is.... do you know why the print out states to call doc 'immediately'...and you say the same thing....if pain worsens??

I think it is certainly not better but no need to call him again.

I'm already on 3 oxycontins 3 qd and still having pain.

Thanks for your response MB.

Sorry that you are feeling cruddy. I'm glad the doctor doesn't think it's the Cipro causing the joint pain but be careful nonetheless. If it suddenly gets alot worse in one joint or another call the doc immediately. Hopefully if the Cipro is causing your increased pain it will start to go away quickly once you stop taking it.

Take good care of you!

Sher,

Cipro is a very effective antibiotic especially for use in urinary tract infections. Unfortunately in some people it causes a worsening of some types of arthritis. More signifcantly it can occasionally cause inflammation or even rupture of tendons. (tendons connect our bones to our muscles). This is a rare but serious side effect (somewhat more common in those over 60). If you notice that the pain in any of your joints suddenly gets alot worse or you suddenly have swelling in any of your joints, rest the joint and call your doctor. Don't try to tough it out, rest it till you know for sure what is causing it.

Oh I like this color and size. The other color was ok, but the font was

tooooooooooooooooooo small for me...lol

As, MB said, you seem to be tolerating the pain right now, but if it

gets worse, follow up again.

MB....oh thank you for telling me that sob can be caused by PH!

Perhaps you will remember, that soon after I joined the board, my constant concern has been about sob, (now worse) and yet my sats would be low 90s. So I didn't use 02. I do not want to have PH added into my records but at LEAST it explains a reason for the sob.

What do I do when I am sob then? I know of course the pursed lip breathing... I'm thinking Dr. Raghu's reports will state that my 6mw went to 88 and then right back to 90. Dr. R. said he didn't think I needed o2 (except at night).

The o2 has become a 'crutch' for me but maybe I don't need it when I'm out and about. I certainly get sob but sats jump back to 90 even when they dropped to 87--88.

Dr R says 'this disease is very confusing and hard to understand".

I will go now and look at PH...

Thanks Pink...I feel more secure. I know I'm not just 'hanging' out there. What amazes me is he made me feel as though I was the only person he needed to see! Others say the same thing. I wonder how he does it. Lots of good assistants, is one thing I observed.

I've already been writing questions for next time.

I'm also going to call in the morning (closed Mon) and try to get an email so I can get some 'left over' questions answered.

Be good today.

Bruce...no, haven't had an echo in at least a year...I've had only one since 2006 dx. At that time everything was ok. I asked specifically if dr saw PH and he said no. I don't know about the wire thing, if it was done or not. I seem to think it must have been, for dr to say 'no' to PH.

I have other symptoms that can go with PH...increasing SOB (remember? I've been commenting on that even tho' SATS are ok?)

swollen legs/ankles and fatigue (I'll say!). Chest pressure. Heart palpitations.

I'm really feeling high anxiety over just what I know so far. There will be an echo w/wire done soon and also to check for an "underlying heart problem".

I'm worn out Bruce...chronic diseases besides the PF, the constant pain...and the cognitive problems that go with opiates...

I don't usually 'complain' but I see the complaints are spewing out. So many here with severe problems...my sweet friend Peggy for one...many more. I have no cause to gripe. But I just did!

Yes, have echo once a yr unless directed more often.

If I had been watched more closely I could have spotted trouble just like Dr. R. did.

THIS is where we learn what to expect from our Drs. I didn't know I should have had a echo long ago. Of course you say it often Bruce but I knew I was going to see Dr. R. and just put it off...

Oh well, it is what it is and hey Walt! I'm borrowing your 'slogan'...

"I'll try again tomorrow".

Love ya.

Well, only the right heart catheter (thats the wire through your neck

(or groin) and into your heart) will show for sure if you have PH.

However, my bet is that if you do have it, it's still mild and so

treatable by the medications. I think he's showing the appropriate

concern as I think every PF'er should be concerned about PH. But, that

concern doesn't automatically mean there will be a problem.

Typically annual echos are required and if any sign of PH, then a

catheter. I'm on echos every six months now.

Gosh Sher, I didn't think when I suggested it..  But you know, it seems that there should be some kind of assistance for folks in this situation.  I mean, how in hell are you supposed to meet his needs and yours??? No driving for a year?  NO lifting over 5 lbs???  Our healthcare issues in this country make me so mad sometimes I could just scream. I know you have strength beyond belief both physically and mentally, but I just worry about the toll this may take.  I'm taking some deep breaths now..I know you will do what you can. Roxanne, 59, South Carolina

Bruce... how in the heck do you know about Rich's surgery?? You must be on the board w/Ze and May...

Yes, surgery on Nov. 3rd. I'm extremely apprehensive about meeting his needs as well as he has meant mine all these years. My caregiver now needs a caregiver. According to the paper work he was given, no driving for a year! Possibility of fainting and/or dizziness and other things. Don't lift more than 5#. However long it takes him to recover sufficiently, shopping that he currently does and errands and etc he may not do for awhile...

It's lucky we are here close to Lysa but she can't be a caregiver full time either.

Our lives are certainly going to change. We don't know yet how we will handle the changes but we will and yes I'll sure keep ya posted.

Geeta...Rich is having a defibrillator put in on Nov. 3. Cardio and PCP both say his heart is bad enough now that something needs to be done. He is a candidate for Cardiac Arrest and if he should have one it's no doubt fatal.

He's anxious to get it done. Me too! Cardio says his life will be extended 20 years or so but at 10 years they probably will change the battery! lol. Rich is almost 80. lol

Sher, tell Rich I'll be watching out for him on November 3rd. My grandaughter is having a rough time time. She has Crohn's disease and went into the hospital to have a 3 inch piece of the intestine removed near the ilium by lapascropy, That went well, but the next day she was in terrific pain. The surgeon then

did an open surgery, from the top to the bottom. The reconnection had been badly done and she

was bleeding so much that the whole stomach space was filled with blood. For the moment she is doing

fine although she isn't moving around much. She's in Virginia and it tears me up that I can't there to be

with her. Jack79/IPF - UIP/dx06/05 Maine

...I will tell Rich you send him prayers! He will appreciate that.

He was sorry we didn't connect last time.

Surgery has been set for Nov. 3. Now that he made up his mind for a 'go' he is anxious to get it done. It could mean no driving for up to a year, watching for fainting or dizziness... that will be a little tough. My meds cause me a little light head but we'll manage. There are 3 drivers at 's.

Take care and I hope you've been getting 'out' more.

Hugs to you and Dakota.

Roxanne,

Yes, we need web cams to Skype each other... Someone else will have to help you w/selection or whatever else you need to do to get one connected. I bought a new laptop a couple of months ago and there is a cam already installed. And speakers. When it comes to electronics I am first in the dummy line!

My Skype name is sherbauman. When you're ready, Skype me. I'm slow in getting connected for some reason but hopefully we will connect.

I see you have Skype in your Ibook. What is your Skype name??

Does your Ibook have a web cam? Sorry if this is a dumb question...I don't even know what an Ibook is...

Hi Sher &

It would be great to see you guys (and Rich), I will not be able to be as free as I would like during this visit. My son & his wife are going on a cruise after thanksgiving, so my WIFE and I volunteered to baby sit for the week. We will only have access to one car and my G'-daughter has her after school activities we have to run around for, BUT,-- you did have a great idea about the seafood buffet----that would be about a 100 mile drive for Sher? If it works out --- we could get together and put this plan in action? Let me know if that is to far for you to drive Sher----
