Hello all,After my biopsy DX came back UIP/IPF from University of Miami a couple of weeks ago, I want to get a second opinion.I am visiting my family in NJ in Feb. and both Cornell and U Penn are about the same distance.Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about either and maybe a Dr. recommendation. I am also going to look into their transplant programs too. Universiy of Miami only did 4 lung transplants last year and they are also not covered by my insurance for transplants. My insurance Aetna does cover Cornell and U Penn and consider them hospitals on excellence.Any help would be appriciated as I need to make my appointments now. Thanks, Dave, 43, UIP, Miami

Dave,

When I lived in NY I saw Dr. Simonelli at Columbia in Manhattan. He came extremely highly recommended and is very well thought of in the ILD field. He's also a very kind person and very easy to speak with.

Here is a link to his info:

Dave, I'd say Penn...that's where I

go. My other doctors upon DX all recommended

that I seek further help from Penn. They did not say Temple which is

also here.

And

“mild” PH/10/07

No,

NSIP was not self-inflicted…I never smoked!

Dave,

I have heard a lot of good things about about Pennsylvania. All anecdotal I'm afraid. I have not heard a lot about Cornell.

My doctor is Dr. Joao de Andrade at UAB in Birmingham AL. It is a transplant center and has an excellent survival record. While this may not be a convenient location for you it is one I can wholeheartedly recommend.
