Hello Shari,

This is a good question. When I first started researching WLS I was really

excited about the RNY and I subscribed to OSSG for the first month I was excited

but at some point I started to really read those posts and in my gut I knew that

I would be miserable and I would eventually fail with the RNYSo I was going to

unsubscribe from the group because I knew that I would never do the RNY....That

day I saw one of Dawn's posts (yup Dawn thanks to you I got the DS) and I

thought to myself how can this woman sound so happy and be able to eat after

this surgery. Well that is when it clicked that Dawn was talking about another

surgery so from there I started to research and read...and that lead me to

's website (thanks for the website Mel its great and thanks to you

whenever I had a question I would refer to the website even at 2 am). That is

when I knew that I didnt have to be miserable anymore that I had a chance at

being healthy and not being a freak. I couldnt stand the thought of eating a few

tablespoons of food. I wanted to eat like a normal person, granted people look

at what I eat now and say " you eat like a bird " which I dont see I think I eat

alot thank you very much. My point is that all I want is to be normal and with

the DS its as close to normal as I can get and I am very happy!!!!!!

I listen to doctors who recommend one surgery over another and I think to

myself....Well Dr So-So is trying to be helpfull but I think the desicion should

be up to the patient...Hell you are going to live with this procedure for a long

time (and thanks to WLS you are going to live much longer). I think it should be

a procedure you are comfortable with... Well that is my long-winded (personal

opinionionated opinion)

I'm in the process of getting all of my pre-op testing done before my

surgery date is set.

I have a kind of general question: What factors determine if you are

a better candidate for DS surgery as opposed to RNY? Are there

different eating " styles " that do better with one type of surgery

over another?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Lee Anne I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you get

prepared for surgery! Yup isnt it amazing how we can affect other people and not

know it and how people we dont know can reach out and touch us in such a way so

that we dont feel so alone...That is why I love this group...It seems like

everytime I am go through something someone on here is also going through it and

I feel like everyting is going to be ok that as long as I am strong and hang in

there that tomorrow is another day.....

*hugs*

The big " factors " for me was that with the DS you get to eat normally and

with the RNY you get marginal ulcers and dumping.

OK, another one - I just love it when you guys get technical and all this

talk about the size of men's *members* made me laugh and smile.....so how

does DS affect a woman? I know fat has a lot of hormones, so as you lose

weight, do you lose your libido? OR do you get even more fiesty? Inquiring

minds want to know! When answering this, also tell us how old you are or if

you are pre or post menapausal or just a young, sexy thang! :-) Carole

Hello all,

Has anyone who has had ipf/pf undergone open heart surgery? I have an email from someone who is asking me this question and would like to know what to expect to some degree. Can you email me @ ls_pulmonaryfibrosis@... if you have gone through or know someone who has gone through open heart surgery while being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis?

Thank you in advance.
