Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, Thanks for your help i greatly appreciate it, I'm really not sure what's best to do to get myself in the best shape possible for this surgery they are taking the whole colon and rectum out as they are where my disease is active luckily enough my small bowel is fine. But il be on a stoma bag for life as there is no cahance of reattachment. I get so mixed up with this diet and only add more stress to myself making me worse plus i was told on LDN groups that i should stop takin LDN before surgerey coz pain meds wont work! (news to me). Since im only stage 1 still and still have the diorreha im always confused on what and waht not i should eat. Your right about vitiman c and i would juice some oranges but afraid it will make my D worse, so i only juice grapes and apples. I have Freeda Multi Vits (3 a day) and Freeda calcium (5 per day) too so should i take the full amount of them each day or is there some scd legal vit c i can get? As i need to get my weight up for this surgerey to avoid complications (im only 6 & half stone) do you reccommend i eat all scd foods even if there stage 2,3,4 etc. Im soo worried bout my low weight im even considering taking the fresubin drinks again which my dietition had me on, there high calorie drinks but with illegals, But then again maybe my yoghurt (which i make with cream and milk) smoothies with bannana, honey, vanilla, butter and raw egg will be good enough for getting the calories up, I also have cream cheese ( made from straining my yogurt) on my sandwich bread topped with chedder cheese each day, i bought avacados too and eat meat each day with purred carrots for dinner, maybe i should add more cooked vegetables to my dinners? As for breakfast il eat scrambled eggs with chedder cheese and butter as a mix, or else tinned tuna or mackeral in sunflour oil. Is there anything else you suggest i do or dont do... By the way my stoma nurse said i will be on a feed after surgery and could be in hospital for 2 weeks depending on recovery, she also said that when i go back to eating i need to drink loads of water i think 4 litres per day and that i can never eat nuts or mushrooms?? which had me thinking how would i do SCD... Guest guest
Mark,If you still have brisk diarrhea, you should be avoiding eggs. Otherwise it sounds like you are getting a good amount of protein and fat to put on weight. Have you tried coconut oil? That and butter put into smoothies will really pack in the fat calories. Also, if you tolerate cooked apples, you can cook them, chill them, and add them to your smoothies as well. They are also good cooked with butter and coconut oil -- no added water -- Yum! If you are making yogurt, you should try making it with cream instead of milk (need to double the starter though) and it will make a lovely very fattening cream yogurt. You can also whip it like regular cream and use it as a topping onto your cooked fruit or bananas.Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Amelia, Ye i can avoid eggs and have something different for breakfast, I have coconut oil i got some today so will use that in my smoothies, as for the yoghurt im making a batch today so will use 2 litres (quarts) of cream like you said to get that extra calories. So i should use twice the amount of yogurt starter than i usually would and i will also cook some apples tonight too. Guest guest
,Probably because in juice the sugars are concentrated in that there is very little pulp left. When you eat an orange, you get all the pulp and fiber and it that affects the way you digest it. Plus, you never know just how they make the orange juice. Have you tried juicing your own oranges to see if you tolerate it better than commercial juice?AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, May 24, 2010 3:01:40 PMSubject: Re: Relin : Have to get colon fully removed in next few weeks Thanks Amelia. Guest guest
Mara,I am suspecting that with commercial yogurt there is a lot of lactose left, so with the quadrupled amount, one is actually ADDING lactose and therefore food for the bacteria to multiply better with. That's my guess anyway.AmeliaP.S. I usually just double, not quadruple, the amount of starter. To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, May 24, 2010 3:03:48 PMSubject: Re: Relin : Have to get colon fully removed in next few weeks That never really made that much sense to me, since it has less lactose,so why quadruple. You can do it that way, but it also works fine with less.MaraMark,"so will use 2 litres (quarts) of cream like you said to get that extra calories. So i should use twice the amount of yogurt starter than i usually would"Oops!, that is incorrect. My bad! One is to actually quadruple it according to the recipe that is in BTVC listed as French Cream, at the bottom of page 158. In the recipe is says to use 1/2 cup commercial yogurt for each 2 cups of cream (about 1/2 of a quart/litre) .
