Guest guest
I've had that happen, I got chicken soup broth all over my kitchen ceiling. It was after I had pureed the carrots in there of course, so it was like decorating for halloween. I always just thought it was me, never took into account it might be because it was hot. I have no idea....-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 11 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Colazol - 9 pills a day Prednisone 25mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: alcibiades@...Date: Sun, 16 May 2010 08:03:12 -0400Subject: OT: heat and centrifugal force in blenders Does anyone know why when you whir a blender with hot liquids it erupts up and out but won't do the same with the same measure of cool water? Guest guest
I couldn't resist posing this question to my loveable nerdy son who is studying for his physics exam right now. Here's his answer Too many variables, like what kinds of liquids, how high the heat is, etc. but the best reason that I can come up with is that hot molecules are moving more quickly causing equilibrium to shift to the side of the blender. Thus, reactions move faster, molecules are bouncing off the blender and each other quicker, faster, etc. and it increases the rate of gas buildup which causes the top to pop off the blender. I could be very wrong since I don't know what heat level we're are talking here. High heat would be more likely to cause gas buildup, warm or cold liquids would not. Just my guess. Guest guest
Does anyone know why when you whir a blender with hot liquids iterupts up and out but won't do the same with the same measureof cool water?LOL! I have such an irrational fear now of blending hot liquids. If I need to blend anything hot, I have to put it in the blender and have my mom push the button. I can't even be in the room =) I think the air pressure is higher because of the higher temperature, so it erupts out of the container. If you can ventilate your blender lid, it won't do that. My blendtec has a lid that lets a lot of air escape, and when I use that lid, it doesn't erupt. My husband says that since the whirling does add heat, you are adding enough heat for the hot liquid to boil... and you are stirring it.
