Guest guest
- i believe i have a 100cm common channel (no way of knowing without exploratory surgery, since my operation report is incomplete), but that is the general consensus. My weight loss has been a little under what i wanted it to be, but only slightly - i'm only a few pounds off my target (less than 10) at this points. It's kind of annoying because i was expecting a 70cm common channel and weight loss that was a little better, because i started at such a large size. But i will take what i can get! i started the year off at 420 pounds - lost 9 pounds in pre-op weight loss efforts, then had my surgery on February 2nd. i am currently 277 pounds and thus have lost 143 pounds in a little over 9 months. My life is totally different now and people say i look like a different person. 100cm is a doable length, i just would have like the extra mmmmph the 70cm common channel would have given me. -Sherry (Lake Marcel, WA) Duodenal Switch Surgery Feb. 2, 2001 self-pay 5'5 " / 277 pounds / 34 years old Lost 9 pounds in pre-op weight loss efforts Have lost 134 pounds since surgery! Guest guest
Hi, I had a full Lap BPD/DS and my common channel is 100 cm. I have my gallbladder and appendix and I do/did not take Actigall. I started out with a low BMI and post-op I consumme alot of sugar and alot of food in general. My weight loss has been steady and I really have not had any plateaus. In 6 months, I have lost 77% of my excess weight. I have no diarrhea, only 1-2 BMs in the early a.m. and very little or no gas. My labs have been great. Overall, my outcome has been wonderful. Guest guest
, My common channel is actually 110cm. I have " unoffically " lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks. Please note that men generally drop weight faster than women, and also I am probably dehydrated. Guest guest
You have me worried, as this is the second or third time that you've mentioned (or someone else mentioned?) that you are/could be dehydrated. What's happening? How much water are you getting down in a day? > > How many of you have (or think you have) a 100 cm. common channel, > > and what have been the results of your weight loss? > > > > Thanks, > >

Guest guest
Hi , My common channel is 125 cm, and I have lost 55 lbs. in four months. While it isn't as fast as some others on the list, I am THRILLED with my results so far. I now weigh 195 lbs, having started at 250 lbs. Guest guest
, I trink about 16 oz of water per day plus maybee 4-6 oz of other fluids. It is enough to sustain me, but not ideal. By comparison they had my I.V. injecting about 48 oz per day. With my small stomach I just can't get that much fluid in while having room for food. On top of that I have diharreha, which causes fluid loss. I am not so dehydrated as to cause major concern, but I have no doubt that fluid loss is responsible for several lbs. of my weight loss to date. I think this is failry normal. I might start taking immodium if things don't get better. Guest guest
I had a lap DS on 12/3/99, I had a 100cm common channel, lost 75 pounds, gained back 30, had a revision on 6/25/2001, now have a 50cm common channel, and have lost 92 pounds total. Still have about 30 to go. Starting BMI was 46. Patti
Guest guest
At the risk of sounding incredibly nosey I would be interested in how you regained the weight and your story. And how your Surgeon decided to do the revision etc.... Guest guest
Gosh, I hope you can start getting more fluids down and get rid of the runs! In response to a question of mine about dehydration, I remember a doctor telling me to drink some salty broth before my water in order to keep the water in me longer. Makes sense, of course, but I have NO idea if that advice would properly apply to your case. So, are you up for one more question? Many people have said that new post-ops gloss over and/or eventually forget how miserable they feel when they come home from the hospital. For those of us about to have surgery, tell us, my dear, how bad is it? Guest guest
>This is interesting, because everytime I see my doctor at scheduled post-operative visits I peep in my chart to see the measurements. Then I doublecheck and ask him how long my common channel is and he always replies 100 cm, which is the same as the surgical reports. I am 5' 10 1/2 " tall and my doctor said my intestines were over 1000 cm. At my six month checkup which was Oct 22, 2001 I had lost 125#. Margaret M.
