Guest guest
Hi BB, I had the 1st part of my ds 9/10/01. Here are some of my answers to your questions.... I am consisering using Dr. G, but the possibility of using someone else is starting to vere its head. I had a consult w/ Dr. G but forgot to get some clear answers on a few things can any one help me out? 1. Does he give you anything to prevent gallstones , I know he does not remove the Gallbladder. ***After surgery Dr G perscribes actigall which is supposed to prevent gallstones from forming. 2. Will he visit you in your room before and after surgery. ***I did not see him before surgery but he came to see me in the hospital almost every day I was there...He was very helpful with any questions I asked. 3.To a earlier poster who said he never had any deaths, he told me recently that he has 2 out of 200 DS and one leak. 4.Has anyone regretted using him as their surgeon, not Mt saini as the hospital I have heard horror stories about them from the very beginning of my research. ***Dr. Gagner is an excellent surgeon, especially if you want to have the procedure done lap, or if you have a bmi over 60. He is very solicitous (sp) as to how the surgery will affect you, and I trust him implicitly. 5. Has he been responsive to concerns and issues postop. I live long distance, he said he would always be there to take phone calls or email, but I have heard a few oppisites on the Internet , has this been the majority's experience. ***I have no had to speak to him, the only problem I had was tht one of my scars was oozing a bit. I spoke to his nurse and was told to come in, but I'm sure if you are far away they would be able to work something out. His staff is not always that easy to get a hold of, but in my experience if you are persistant they will get back to you. 6. How can I make sure that he will be the one strickly performing the ds on me. I know he needs assistants, but I don't want a fellow or intern touching me. ***I asked him the same question...He assured me that it would be him doing the surgery and I had to take his word for it. All I know is that I felt (and feel) better than I thought I would, and I trust that he took good care of me. Thanks for answers. Feel free to add anything else. BB I hope all goes well for you and that some of these answers helped. ****Peace and Love***** H. in N.Y. BPD/DS part 1 (sleeve gastrectomy) 9/10/01 Dr. Michel Gagner Mt.
