Guest guest
Hi everyone! I am in a rather unique position. October 16th, I went for an RNY in San , Texas. I woke to find that the doctor had found cancer, removed it, but did not complete the surgery for weight loss. I'm dealing with the cancer. Basically it's rare; I got it really bad in 1995, but knew it could come back any time. My doctor would not complete the surgery and then told me I would NEVER be a candidate for WLS. Well my oncologist and general surgeon from '95 disagree. I can have surgery after 3 months have passed. Here's the problem. I thought RNY was the way to go, but while waiting for my date to come up--my doctor is booked 2 years in advance, I started reading about several people having leaks, severe infections, going back to the hospital several times, etc. etc. He is probably the most popular bariatric surgeon in Texas and most of the problems I've read about are his. I really know almost nothing about the DS surgery, but my general surgeon told me today that it was considered the newest and best way to go with weight loss surgery. I copied some information about it over the internet. My news gathering is just beginning and I know little about the surgery, but hear that there are fewer complications. Does anyone know of a surgeon in Texas (I don't think there are any) who does this surgery or in any of the surrounding states. Would I have to be put on a long waiting list? Would any of you mind telling me like three reasons you chose this surgery over the VBG or RNY? My name is Jeanne and I live in Austin, Texas. I look forward to getting to know ya'll!
