I Had my Consult Today at Dr. R's Office

Literally EVERY morning, I wake up anywhere from 3:15

to 5:00am. No reason except that I'm hurting. Soooo,

I figured I'd easily be up on time today to get to Dr

Rabkin's off by 8am. I did set my alarm for 4:30 just

in case.

Of course, I slept like a baby until my phone rang at

5:50! I missed the alarm even. Grrrrr. So I rushed

rushed rushed to get to the City. We made it on time!

The only person in the office was Camille. She was

very nice and was funny too. She helped my friend

find the cafeteria. And of course Elaine is my

bud - very sweet person.

Delphine took several of us to the conference room to

see the Powerpoint presentation. She ended up having

to give an oral presentation because no one could find

a computer cord or something. It was fine with me

because I've seen the pics already. Delphine is very

nice as well.

Afterwards, it got kinda hectic. All of us in the

meeting came back to the office for our individual

exams, etc. Things got settled and I was off into an

exam room.

I never did meet Dr Rabkin. I dealt with

Rossi, I think. I didn't realize who he was - thought

he was like a para-doctor or something. Near the end

of the exam, I finally " got it " . He was cool. He saw

on my form that I said I smoked and quit at 41. He

said congrats and I told him I hadn't exactly quit YET

but would and I'll still be 41 when I do quit! So I

got the lecture in a nice way. I do agree I have to

quit before surgery.

Sooooo, after I win my insurance battle and have

stopped smoking for 6 weeks, I'm going in for the

surgery. He said I was a good candidate.

I did ask him about the poor man who died after

surgery and he said the man weighed over 600 pounds.

Poor man... He said they were all upset about it but

realize he would have died anyway due to his

co-morbidities.

So now I'm home, waiting until it's time to go back to

SF for the monthly meeting... Then I've completed the

required meetings. I'd love to continue attending but

it's too hard to get there. We'll see...
