We just got a script for our 7mo. old son for a helmet. We were looking into Cranial Tech in Toledo. It is a bit of a drive for us; however, the doctor then suggested Yankee Bionics. Any feed back from those who are further into this journey would be greatly appreciated. Our son also has torticolis and a vision issue, along with other issues. ------------------------------------ For more plagio info
Guest guest
Molly, Cole is where we were headed before our pediatrician expressed that we do not need to travel so far - 2 hour trip each way as opposed to @ 20 minutes. I was very impressed with the reviews I have read about the STARband; however, I am uncertain as to the make of device used by Yankee Bionics. I do know that YB uses a " protective helmat " that does not apply pressure, but is shaped to allow growth in the underdeveloped area. To my understanding the STARband is an active device, applying a light pressure to all areas except those needing expansion. We know E's main insurance does not cover Cole, but does cover YB. We have been told, though, that BCMH would cover Cole and are working on having braces added in the event we feel we need to utilize their service for him. We are still awaiting the removal of the broviac before we can consider the procedure starting. Has anyone used YB yet???????????????? Guest guest
, We live just inside Wayne County right off of I-71. Our pediatrician is located in Medina. We have had an interesting adventure into getting a script. We saw a plastic surgeon in Cleveland, UH, who said we needed to try repositioning therapy (which he referred to as Behavior Modification. I had already explained to him the we had had our son since late June and started repositioning as well as massage and PT for him at that time. Once he finished telling me to try the Beh. Mod., I inquired into how long it would be before we should notice some improvement. He assured me it should only take @ 6-8 weeks. I asked if he had missed that we have been undertaking what he advised and additional measures since June - that would be over twice as long as recc. He simply did not respond and stated that we should try the repositioning. I was rather upset and went to talk to the pediatrician. She was not 100% sure we should go that route; however, I asked her if we felt 100% sure that this is something that we should do for him, would she support us in our decision? She affirmed us that she would and willingly wrote a script. We really believe E has so many things which we know he will have to deal with and feel that this is one thing we might can handle to some degree. Maranatha > > HI! We are in OH. Guest guest
You can search old messages online for Yankee Bionics. I did a little looking and what I found indicated that they used a passive helmet. It is fitted once and checked 4 mo later. Starband, Docband and Hanger band are all active bands that apply gentle pressure and need to be adjusted every few weeks. The advantage of an active helmet is the correction is usually better and quicker. There are some people that have used the Claren helment (also passive) with good results. But I would opt for the 2 hour trip. Particularly if the place is experienced in banding since experience is also very important in choosing a provider. -christine sydney, almost 3 yrs starband grad > > > > There is also a STARband provider in Toledo: > > > > Cranio Kidz > > Division of Cole Orthotic and Prosthetic Center > > Cole, CO/LO > > 723 Ave., Bldg F > > Toledo, OH 43612 > > 419-476-4248, FAX 419-476-6655 > > Email: danielcoleco@ > > www.craniokidz.com > > > > Molly > > Novato, California > > Nicolas, 3, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06, > > Graduate! > > , 5.5 > > , 9 > > > > Where to go in Ohio?????????????? > > > > We just got a script for our 7mo. old son for a helmet. Guest guest
Hi, I also live in the Cleveland area and my son wore a DOCband from November '07 through February '08. By far one of the best decisions we made. We went to a provider called Straight Ahead Pediatric Physical Therapy located in Mayfield Village. They were a satelite office for Cranial Tech. I just ran into another mom the other day who was also using that provider and she told me that Cranial Tech closed all of their satelite offices so they are no longer providing bands in Mayfield Village. So - unfortunately you can't go there BUT, they might be able to refer you to a provider that they feel does a good job. The PT's there ( and Mike) were very knowledgeable about Plagio and helmets and how they should work, etc. We drove an hour there and back each week for our son's band and we had a choice to go to a Hanger office that would have only been 10 minutes away. We chose to travel b/c and Mike were more experienced. That decision was based partly on all of the advice on this board that the level of experience of the provider really matters as much as the helmet you select. was a PT at UH working with pediatric patients. I would imagine she is still there if you are also looking for a good PT. Here's the phone number for Straight Ahead 440-460-0923. Good luck with everything! Mandy > > > > HI! We are in OH. Guest guest
We have a Star Band from the Cleveland Clinic (Main Campus). It has been on almost two months. Not much growth out of my daughter in that time, but we are happy with the Clinic. > > > > > > > > HI! We are in OH. We are going to Yanke Bionics. We just started > > the > > > > process.
