I'll let you know, my surgery is Nov 19, and I'm from Detroit living in Ann

Arbor now. Don't know, I've been in NY three times in the past year, twice as

a tourist once just for my Dr app't. I thought all the New Yorkers were very

nice. But then I was in Paris last year too, no one thinks the French are

nice, but I had no trouble with them either. I'll be alone at Mt Sinai, and

at some hospitals if the nurses are overworked, they'll save all their care

for those who are alone, figuring the others will be taken care of by their

friends or families who are with them. From all I've read here I figure I'll

be treated mean, but decided the surgeon's skills are more important than

anything else. So I'll let you know!

I live in NYC and had an absolutely horrid experience at Mt. Sinai.

I had no complications (thank goodness) but the basic care was

appalling and caused me to be in excruciating pain most of the stay.

I have written about it here so I won't get into it again, however I

truly think it is the luck of the draw on how it goes for each

individual since the responses to this topic vary so vividly. IMHO.

My experience with Mt. Siani has been fine. I am pre-op but I went for the

intial consult and no the receptionists aren't overly energetic but they were

" professonal " I ran into a problem because my flight was cancelled and I was

not able to make my appointment time but they were very pleasant on the phone

and rescheduled me for a later time. In terms of the hospital itself I don't

know I've heard good and bad.

I had the sleeve gastrectomy part in Dec. and in June part 2. I think it

would be beneficial for anyone to hire a companion to stay with them since

the nurses are so busy. The nurses were very nice to me and whenever I needed

them they came as soon as they could. It was difficult for me to raise myself

to get out of the bed and yet, whenever anyone came they were more than

helpful, and didn't mind assisting me.

I had my bpd/ds on May 24 2001 of all things a holiday weekend Memorial Day.

I really feel it all depends on how well the person handles pain and

discomfort that makes the hospital staff good or bad. I got to my room after

surgery around 11:00pm Thursday night. I stopped using pain meds (the pump

made me sick) on Friday, and never took another pain pill to this day. I

went home on Saturday afternoon. I am not a baby when it comes to pain I

have learned how to endure. (I gave birth to an 11lbs. 7oz. baby naturally.

) I had a good experience at the hospital. You have to remember you will

have some pain and discomfort, but it wont last long and the rewards and

benefits are a thousand fold. Good luck on your journey to the other side!!
