Guest guest
, I have been aware of your story since your first posts post op. The only encouragement I can give you, is that you have lost 40 pounds that you will never regain. That is the most important thing to remember. Instead of being another 10 or 20 pounds heavier over the past 5 months, you have battled and lost weight that will forever be gone! Celebrate that, add on the weight you were likely to gain, and know that every month brings you closer to goal and pain relief! Guest guest
, The horrible thing about worry is that it has no impact on the outcome, and just makes us miserable on the way! Flock your worry. When you first had the surgery, you were worried that you would feel horrible forever and that you weren't losing any weight. Now lady, through a lot of sacrifice and hard work, you are down FOURTY POUNDS! Celebrate that. Just think your journey is so much shorter than many others, that your rate of weight loss is slower but your percentage of weight is right on target. Please, try to support yourself in how far you have come and find ways to reward yourself. When you are stuck in the middle of a process, its miserable as hell...(just like my whining about my knee replacement, snicker). But just think in a year where we will be!!! And I will be the first one at the finish line ready to give you a huge hug and congratulations. Keep positive lady. I am so envious of your weight loss. Save a place for me on the switched side please! Guest guest
You have lost 20% of your body weight.. I dont think that's bad .. even for 5 months. > Hi > i had the DS on June 5th and went in weighing 207 i am five feet tall i am > now almost 5 months and have only gotten down to 167, if we are suppose to > lose 10 pds a month i am now almost 10 pds behind schedule, I cant excercise > that well as i have a bad right knee that is aggrevated by excecise..anyone > else out there in the same situation or have any suggestions, they would be > greatly welcomed. > > thanks > > nyc ds june 5th with dr. gagner > > >
Guest guest
.. You ARE losing.. not as fast as you think is right, but it is definitely coming off. All I can tell you is what has been said before.. increase your protein and fat intakes.. try to find a Y where you could take no-impact water aerobics (to protect your knees). I know you're not happy with your loss.. but I'm impressed. Shoot.. you're at my goal.. I'd about kill to weigh what you do now. Try to relax, think positive, and you'll get to your goal. Guest guest
, I know you had a tough time in the first few months and I hope that has gotten better. As for your weight lost, you aren't 10 lbs behind by the calculations I've found. You are pretty close to perfect. According to what I've seen on an average at 6 months you should be down by 50% of your excess. From what I found on the web for your height you should be about 118 that makes 89 lbs excess at the beginning. So half is 44.5. You are down 40 lbs at 5 months. If you lose 4.5 in the next month you are exactly at average, but then who is average. See my next post about my lost. Rita Black Open DS, Dr. Macura 4/23/01 400 lbs, BMI 63 5/1/01 391 lbs, BMI 61 5/22/01 368 lbs, BMI 58 6/21/01 350 lbs, BMI 55 7/31/01 328 lbs, BMI 51 5/22/01 368 lbs, BMI 58 6/21/01 360 lbs, BMI 55 7/31/01 328 lbs, BMI 51 8/23/01 320 lbs, BMI 50 9/25/01 306 lbs. Guest guest
, You ideal weight is about 115 lbs. You initial excess weight was 92 lbs. You have lost 40 lbs so far, which corresponds to 43.5% excess weight loss in 5 month. Typically a DS patient looses 50% excess weight loss in 6 months, so if you loose 6 lbs in the next month you will be right on target. The rate of weight loss in lbs/month depends on how heavy you are to begin with. You started out at a very low weight by comparison to most of us. Therefore you will loose fewer pounds per month. Keep in mind that on average you will loose 75% of your excess weight in 12-18 months. This means that you can expect to loose a total of 69 lbs and end up with a final weight of 138 lbs. So you only have another 29 lbs to go and you have at least 7 more months to loose. I know 138 lbs is not ideal for somebody who is 5 feet tall, but it is still healthy! So you are doing fine. Please don't compare yourself to those that started at 300+ pounds. There just is no comparison. You started out at a weight that many on this list would be happy to FINISH with! Guest guest
: You are losing, so how can you worry it is not working. If you start gaining huge amounts that is when one needs to worry. Relax, and stop worrying, it does no good, and I am talking from experience as you know. Guest guest
Sorry to be so late in chiming in, but I have to remind myself that we shorter/lighter people aren't going to lose the great gobs that others who have more to lose. Someone who weighs 400lbs is going to lose more faster than someone who is 200lbs. You are nearly 50% to goal, which is exactly where you're supposed to be. Remind me of what I've said in 6 months when I'm the one complaining... ~alyssa pre-op 5' tall, BMI 45 Not losing weight > Hi > i had the DS on June 5th and went in weighing 207 i am five feet tall i am > now almost 5 months and have only gotten down to 167,
Guest guest
More importantly, the goal weight for someone 5' tall is between 100 and 125. If you take the high end, has 80 lbs to lose -- 50% by 6 months would be 40 lbs...so by my count, she's AHEAD of schedule, not behind! ~alyssa Re: Not losing weight > You have lost 20% of your body weight..
