Drive time for her would be approximately 5 hours (maybe a little under) depending on where in Milwaukee she is coming from. Next closet is Drs. Hess and Oakley in Bowling Green Ohio. For me it's 6.25 hours but I'm not sure if her drive would be an hour less or not since she would end up going through more of Chicago than we drive through. She could use www.mapblast.com or www.mapquest.com to get driving directions and those do a pretty good job on estimating the time. Also from my experience she will get in much sooner with Drs. Hess and Oakley than with Dr. Buchwald. I called Dr. Buchwald the first week of August and the first consult available was Jan 9. I called Dr. Hess's office the second week of August and got a consult for Oct 15. My surgery is November 14 so I'm be done with everything long before I even got to see Dr. Buchwald. hope this helps
Guest guest
Barbi, I don't have any ideas but I have to say you seem like a wonderful friend. Bless you - you've probably saved her life if she goes through with the WLS. dee --- grrlhope@... wrote: > Hi gang, > > I have a friend who is interested in the DS and > lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Where is the closest DS doc to her? She is 500 plus pounds and I don't think she will even consider a plane ride. A long distance car ride prolly isn't the best option after a major open surgery either but I think I've finally convinced her the DS is better than the RNY (she has an RNY doc locally). __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Does your friend have a computer? If so, is she on any of these lists? Maybe she might not mind the drive if she knew of the advantages of DS over RNY by hearing it from real people just like you. Is Medicaid going to cover her RNY? Would it cover a DS? Jean. Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the list and was wondering if anyone knows of a doctor in the New England area that does the DS surgery. I am committed to having weight loss surgery and would much prefer DS if there is any possible way I can arrange it. Any suggestions? Thanks, ann Re: DS doctor close to Milwaukee? Guest guest
Hi folks! I am a new member and I am also interested in Dr's near Milwaukee. After doing a lot of research on the different types of surgery, I think I've decided that this one would be the best for me. The problem is that there isn't a lot of dr's that do it. I sent an email to a surgeon in Minneapolis, but he hasn't replied to me. I'm 21 years old, BMI of 45. Looking for help!! PS... anyone have Humana insurance here? Thanks!! They approved less than 24 hours after getting my paperwork. I live in Madison and will be going to Dr. Hess in Ohio. The drive is about 6.25 hours for me. Not sure how the time will work out for you since you will be going around Chicago a different way than I do. It's great to se another Wisconsinites on the board. There aren't too many of us. Guest guest
Ask her to please consider Dr. Hess/Oakley. Ohio is probably the closest, and he is so experienced. She can stay in a hotel post op, until she is ready for the trip home. She overcome the hurdles to get this far--there is only one more. I would take Hess with the trip because of his experience over one that is closer who just started doing these surgeries. She could rent a van and take the seats out in the back and put a recliner in there--one that goes out nice and flat--she'll have a cushy trip!! Guest guest
ann, I live in New York and I think this is as close as you are going to find a DS doc to you. I'm not certain, maybe someone knows of one in your area. I do have a friend who lives in New England that had the RNY instead of the DS because she didn't want to travel (it happens a LOT). But to me it's totally worth any travel. Fortunately I had several docs locally to choose from. The NY docs are listed on the DS website, their addresses and phone numbers. Good luck!
