Guest guest
Jenn, My daughter is 8. We are seeing signs of adrenarche and have an appt with her endo in 2 weeks. What should we ask him to look for? Last summer we thought we had a problem (breast development, body odor,) and they did a test which showed no hormone activity. I couldn't believe it. Now I know it's happening. We feel that we hqve a good endo - no problems yet - but he is way too busy. He's the only Ped endo in N E Oklahoma. What do we look for, ask, etc.? Mikey is 50 lbs, 50 in., has been on growth hormone for 5 years. She has been growing at the rate of 4 in per year - no other problems. Finally eats well. We thought we were " home free " . Guess not. Since I have seen your posts about I thought you might have some advice. Mikey was born full term, 3.8 lbs,15 inches. Thanks Ellen - mother and grandmother to Mikey
Guest guest
Guys - I am just giggling at your stories. We used to call " Jekyll and Hyde. " When it continued past age 4, we quickly found out that a major contributing factor was her blood sugar levels. Once we stablized those, it got MUCH better. I pray for all of you! Today, we had a BIG revelation. 's last blood work clearly showed she is in full adrenarche (DHEA levels of more than 320, normal 60-70 prior years). She has had scattered pimples on her forehead. Today she came home from school hot and sweaty - I helped her change and BAM -- massive body odor, almost bowled me over! I told her it was deodorant time, and you have never seen a little girl SOO excited. Here I am thinking, 9 years old, bone thin, and body odor, and she is so excited about it. Incredible! I have learned from Dr. H that the Arimidex that she is on won't STOP adrenarche, so the body odor and pimples keep going. It just specifically halts the conversion of the adrogens into estrogen, and hopefully will then halt her rapid progression of her bone age. Meanwhile, I just wish the pimples and body odor would go away. She is only 9 and in 3rd grade!!! Guest guest
, I am so glad that you shared this with us. I have talked to my husband several times about the risk of premature adrenarche but it never hit home to him until I told him about . Knowing how involved you are and the fact that she see's Dr. H twice (at least, right?) a year really made me open my eyes. If this can happen at 9 to it sure as heck can happen earlier with other kids. I just hope her growth continues and the mood swings level out for you.
