Both my older brothers are normal weight..one is skinny and the other

is maybe 5 lbs over his ideal weight. Both my brothers at separate

times over the past year said almost the same thing to me. " I don't

mean to insult you, but have you thought about weight loss

surgery ? " I then proceeded to explain that yes, I had and I was

actually just waiting to change insurance companies in September,

then I explained the different procedures and why I wasn't doing

the 'Roux-en-Y' that they had both seen on TV at different times

(Carnie special). I wasn't suprised at my oldest brother

because he had said to me before " I don't care if you get fatter or

skinnier, but you need to get healthier because my little sister

shouldn't die before me' (that was actually my wake up call that I

needed to do something). My second oldest brother is the one who

thought telling someone they were fat was a good way to motivate them

to lose weight, so the fact that he was supportive and at 5'11 120

lbs, understood the need for me to have surgery was amazing!! If you

know your family loves you and wants you to be healthy, I would tell

them as most objections are just fear of surgery or complications and

can be addressed.
