Guest guest
, Max had the same surgery when he was about 8 months old. Well, he did not have the g-tube part, but he did have the malrotated intestines and appendix removal. He was in the hospital for about 5 days and VERY uncomfortable. I remember all he could do was sit in his infant seat that I had brought to the hospital because we had to keep him in an upright postition (very bad reflux). I could not hold him or do anything but fight with the nurses to give him pain meds. They did not like to do it because they would slow down his motility. It was awful. I just cried. I hope that is better soon. How awful to go in for something that should be relatively simple and wind up with complications. I hope that the next time we hear from you, you are all home and comfortable again. Jodi Z
Guest guest
Hi My son Liam had his g tube placed at 11 months, he had a paralytic illeus for 6 days post op. One thing i have always remembered about that time was after 6 days of not hearing any bowel sounds, they started giving him feeds anyway, obviously very slowly and he took a bottle, which stunned us because he hadnt been intrested in oral for weeks before the op( he must of been starving). I do think our kids guts stop, with any procedure or illness, they have very slow guts and very sensitive. Even today I can listen to Liams abdomen and not hear much, where with my other son he sounds like a washing machine.I think thats just RSS kids. Hope is feeling better soon. Dayna _____ From: RSS-Support [mailto:RSS-Support ] On Behalf Of soniacardinale Sent: Friday, April 22, 2005 6:11 PM To: RSS-Support Subject: 7 days and counting - update on C. Hello All, First, thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers last week when was scheduled to have surgery to place a g-tube, fix a malrotation in his intestine and remove his appendix. Unfortunately, he has been hospitalized ever since. Actually, we left Sunday night only to return a few hours later because he had non- stop vomiting and was in severe pain. He has since been diagonised with " paralytic ileus " , which essentially means that his intestines are stunned and not functioning properly or pushing his food through. He has not been able to eat (orally) since Sunday. They are giving him a diluted formula through his g-tube and he has been on an IV. He has been poked umpteen times for blood, but they can never get enough to run their tests. His surgeon did not expect this from him and it has taken him much longer than average to recover. They gave him an enema yesterday to relieve him from some gas and pressure, as he was very uncomfortable. I have not been able to hold him or move him much because of the pain. Hopefully his intestines will " wake up " and come back to normal soon. This was supposed to be a simple in-and-out procedure that has dragged on for a week. I can't wait until we can all go home and return to some state of " normalcy " . :-( Please continue to keep him (us!) in your prayers. I am confident things will get better soon. I appreciate all the messages and e- mails from you wonderful folks!
