Guest guest
The stages are just guidelines on pecanbread.com. You can eat anything legal out of the BTVC book. Canned salmon without illegals or fresh, frozen cooked salmon is fine. Avocados are legal and fine if you tolerate them. As far as introducing yogurt, I had to start out with 1/8 t. because it seemed very strong to me. If it works fine for you, then you are allowed 3c. per day. It may cause die-off eating that much starting out though. If you do ok with what you are eating now, increase it and see how things go. There's really no limit on food except the yogurt so you don't eat 'only yogurt'. Some foods like dried beans and nut flours are considered advanced because they would probably be hard to digest on a damaged gut. You can ask here if you can't find something, plenty of folks in the same boat as you and/or have been there. (Great thing about on-line groups). Baked fish is on the intro, so is yogurt and cheesecake and you can eat as much as you want of anything legal. Hope this helps and you enjoy the butternut fries! Debbie 40 cd > I went back to the intro diet and have been on the intro for 2 days. I was going to start adding foods tomorrow. I am starving and had about 1/2 cup left of yogurt. I was reading through the intro diet and Elaine talked about the cheesecake. I remembered I had a little bit of yogurt left and ate it. Then as I was eating my last bit I thought about conversations from the group about introducing yogurt in a tiny bit at a time. Do you think that's ok or should I do another day of intro? > Speaking of coming off the intro...do you think it's ok to eat salmon? I'm going to start with butternut squash. I really want avocados but I can wait. They're stage 2. But there is no listing for salmon. Thanks! > michelle MARKETPLACE Do More for Dogs Group. Connect with other dog owners who do more. Guest guest
I do make LOTS of bone broths. I have a lot in the freezer. I did eat some soup yesterday. Mostly ground chicken and eggs cooked into little patties. That's all for the past 2 days.I haven't gone to the bathroom in over 3 days not. Well I have little here and there but nothing like one should. No pain. Thanks!!!To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Fri, April 9, 2010 6:33:44 AMSubject: Re: Did I blow it? Heya , Intro is hard. If you can wait the 2-5 days until some of your symptoms dissipate that is best. Don't worry about the yogurt. Some people do fine with it on a modified intro (I myself later realized I had to go dairy free) Try the salmon, butternut and avocado just intro at a pace in different days. Have you ever made bone broth? I suspect you're going a little stir crazy and hungry because you aren't getting enough fat. Bone broth is quite satiating! What are you eating now? Have some of your sypmtoms gotten better on intro? Jodi > > I went back to the intro diet and have been on the intro for 2 days. I was going to start adding foods tomorrow. Guest guest
I DO love butternut squash. Sometimes I'll cook 5 big ones and just scoop them out and freeze the extras. I use the squash and puree it with chicken/eggs and make patties. Seems to work great for snacks. What frustrates me with ME is that those with D know immediately if something doesn't agree with them but with C I just don't know.michelleTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Fri, April 9, 2010 4:43:04 AMSubject: Re: Re: Did I blow it? Guest guest
Hi Kat,Thanks. I have some tilapia in the freezer. I'm missing fish. Last night I scraped 3 lbs of salmon from the skin and blended it with a couple eggs. Made patties and froze them. I thought they would make good, quick snacks.michelleTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Fri, April 9, 2010 1:13:04 AMSubject: Re: Did I blow it? Hi , I can handle salmon OK depending on the salmon and depending on the day. The fattier Coho salmon sits better for me than the leaner salmons, but I seem to do OK with that kind of fat. Maybe I'm not cooking the other kinds of salmon well - they seem dryer and harder to get down. If your body likes white fish, I find sole and halibut go down very well for me. The softer the fish, the better. Again, this is just me. Everyone is different. After I did a full colonoscopy-style clean-out for my cancer surgery, and then was on nothing by mouth for three days, then clear liquids, then thick liquids, then soft foods, then normal foods (although I stayed with a bunch of pureed foods for quite awhile), it took me somewhere around ten days before I had a bowel movement. (Yeah, and two years ago, I was still in the hospital!) OTOH, when I had my colonoscopy, and then resumed eating my normal foods, with meats, vegetables, and etc., I had a bowel movement within 24 hours. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
Thanks for your advice. Everything is so hard to know. I used to spend a lot of time in the kitchen: pre scd but not it's crazy. I'm getting better at making larger quantities and freezing. But I still cook separately for my family and soak all grains/beans for them...make my own bread. I'm a bit of a crazy cook. It's all getting better.I was thinking about the past couple weeks and how for the last 2 I pretty much raced the kids to bed at night and would sleep for 10ish hours. That was at the same time everything was coming to a halt. I went on the intro for 2 days and although I go to the bathroom 4 or 5 times a day it's no where near what it should be. Not even close. My 2 year old poops more in one sitting than I do in a whole day. But I don't have to be in bed at 6 or 7 so I'm happy about that. One would think, though, if all I eat is a bunch of squash, broth, chicken, and eggs I should go to the bathroom. I added the squash on Sat. I cooked 2 jars of prune juice today waiting for the opportunity to try prunes. I don't know if that should be next or should I try applesauce? What do you think?I'm off to take my 2 turkeys out of the oven. If I'm going to cook, I'm going to do this big!To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sun, April 11, 2010 5:05:50 PMSubject: Re: Did I blow it? Thank you Marilyn, for actually saying what I meant to say! My intention was to say that the intro diet is usually quite low residue (and I still can't remember where I came across this reference - I read it a few years back when I first started the SCD), but it was quite late, I was very tired and I'm in the depths of a cold, so its all slightly foggy at the moment. I meant to address 's concern about not seeing any movement for a few days while starting the diet, and to reassure her that, if all else was well, that it was not a cause for concern. Ten days for you - wow! I wanted to share the idea I have that, although we are pressed to believe that we must have regular (i.e., daily) bowel movements, and that something is wrong with us if we don't, that not everyone conforms to that health profile, and that for many, particularly those trying to change their intestinal health (especially through diet), that there can be a time of readjustment of many different aspects, including BMs. It scares a lot of us at first when nothing appears for day after day, after day, after day, especially after having taken up residence in the bathroom day and night, watching ourselves deteriorate. And yes, regular BMs are possible on SCD, even after a lifetime of anything but. So thank you Marilyn, and courage - we're all on a long journey with many twists, but ultimately worth every step.
