Guest guest
I know that someone a while back talked briefly about food combining. I've really wanted to look into this. This is what I found. Does anyone adhere to these rules? So if I've been eating a lot of chicken pureed with butternut squash and eggs, is that bad? I need to make a chart. If I'm going to go through all the effort that I do, let me get it right. And why can we eat red meat if it's so acidic? I'll never understand that. I thought red meat wasn't as good as chicken or turkey.Always learning,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/food-combining.htmThis was interesting: Eat proteins and acid foods at separate meals. The acids of acid foods inhibit the secretion of thedigestive acids required for protein digestion.Undigested proteins putrefy in bacterialdecomposition and produces some potent poisons. So I looked up acidic food and found this:http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htmI was really surprised to find that fish is acidic. So lasagna and anything pasta with meat is bad. Not that we can eat it but I try to make my family meals that are all-inclusive sometimes (lasagna with hamburger, spinach, other veggies, black beans...). Now that doesn't seem like a good idea. Guest guest
I second Marilyn. Also, if you want really good guidance on food digestion/combining, I suggest the book Healing With Whole Foods by Pitchford. When I was improperly doing the diet, I found myself needing to separate foods more. Once I stopped screwing up so badly, I found my body no longer needed or had any patience for this. Even when I had to back to intro. This is all easily explained in Healing With Whole Foods. Keep up what your body asks for, if its SCD safe. when you eat protein, you need carbs to help digest it better, usually if you have carbs in front of you, your body will ask to eat it. It's really funny actually, if you push limits with this, say eating pure protein like a ton of egg whites, you can actually end up feeling hungrier than before you ate them, because your body wants even more carbs then. Hunger usually is craving for calories/carbs, unfortunately your body isn't very good at signaling a need for protein, it just gets tired. This causes trouble with lots of vegans, they often get enough calories, not enough protein, and have trouble realizing it. foods also compliment eachother with enzymes. chicken, squash, and eggs sounds great. I would stick to that, rather than put yourself in a situation where you are having even more trouble getting nourishment. the squash actually helps you digest the protein. I wouldn't say it's as black and white as " red meat not as good as chicken or turkey " . They are very different foods, with different nutrients, health effects, and digestabiltiy. People bash red meat mostly because of it's fat content and ratios. Don't worry about it at this stage of the diet. You'll have enough trouble getting good fats, and it is a good source of omega-6, and also a little omega-9. Most people just worry because they usually eat too much omega-6, and that still isn't really a problem unless it gets seriously out of balance with omega-3. but it is essential to eat enough omega-6. Even some saturated fat is essential. Also, with these guts problems, the fats in red meats are extremely helpful for healing. Also, it is the best source of b-12, and has lots of (heme, the best type) iron. Red meat at this stage is really a good friend, and not really interchangeable with white meat. Red meat, chicken, and turkey are all really good for us. Just make sure you don't go hog wild on any one food, and keep things in balance. Listen to your body, it's pretty good at knowing how to do that. Best :)On Mon, Apr 12, 2010 at 1:01 AM, Wizop Marilyn L. Guest guest
The basics of food combining are (I did this for a couple of months) Fruit alone Don't mix proteins and carbs together. Carrots and squashes and other high carb vegies need to be eaten w/carbs and not proteins (so no carrots and meat together) Most other vegies go w/either carbs or proteins. Nuts (at least from the nutritionist that I was following) are divided - like pecans were a carb and almonds were a protein (I can't remember exactly and I wasn't sure if I agreed w/the nut part or not) But what this means is that you couldn't mix yogurt w/fruit...couldn't put yogurt in a smoothie, can't eat apple w/peanut butter, couldn't eat strawberries on a sald, etc ,etc. I might agree w/the concept, but right now, while our choices are limited anyway, I just found it to be too hard to restrict myself any further. I have researched whether people agree w/this diet and what I have concluded is that people who have a compromised digestive system may benefit from it, while those who are OK probably don't need to do it. Guest guest
, I know some people swear by food combining, just as some swear by an allergy rotation diet. I've tried both, a number of times, and it didn't make a particle of difference in how my gut behaved or how I feel. Once I found SCD these were among the things that I thought, Aha! now I know why these didn't work: they weren't the problem so these schemes weren't part of the solution. I know that someone a while back talked briefly about food combining.
Guest guest
Wow, this makes a lot of sense in what my body is doing right now. I can't tolerate many carbs and yesterday started cutting back on my animal protein and feel better today. It's helped my upper right side pain also. I've been eating too much animal protein and too much protein in general. I could eat a pretty hefty meal with a good bit of protein (chicken, fish) and will be hungrier after eating than before eating! My belly seems less bloated and hard feeling too. I'm going to eat more veggies and hopefully expand my veggies more soon. If i try well cooked, pureed butternut squash soon i'll try it with a little protein....fingers crossed it'll be ok. I ordered " Healing with Whole Foods " last night! Thanks !
