Guest guest
Hi! I just had my consult in California. I was all set to do the Rny but my doctor prefers the duodenal switch. It sounds like a better option but I am not sure. With your new life what has changed? What modifications have you made in eating, changes in BM (a big complaint with the DS procedure) and general well being. Let me know! Guest guest
I am 2 1/2 months post-op. After the first few weeks of recovery, things have really gotten a lot better. As for BM, I have 1 per day at most. They do smell bad, but they did before surgery too. I have found that my life has changed a lot since surgery. Besides losing over 50 lbs I have also started exercising and doing things I haven't done in a long time. I am even going to play racquet ball with friends next week. I would have never attempted anything physical like that before surgery. I can pretty much eat what I want (except corn was a problem). It is a major change in lifestyle from focusing on food to focusing on other things. I am not concerned whether the portions will be big enough for me anymore. I don't worry about having to eat when I get home from somewhere after trying to eat what everyone else does. I am still adjusting to life after surgery, but it was definitely the best choice I ever made for myself. I would take a stinky BM over the weight anytime. Kathy M. What has changed for me is I can eat anything I want and I have a very normal relationship with food now. I have made NO modifications other than what my body has automatically made for me. For instance I hate ice cream so dont eat that any longer. And I love proteins so Im always looking for cheese, ham to wrap around a pickle or things like that to eat! If I want candy I eat it.....if I want blackberry pie I eat it....the difference is now I get full on about half of everything I eat and I do not feel deprived in any way. The BM's are stinky but what poop ever smelled good anyway?? I take acidophulis every day and that seems to have really cut down the smell. All one has to do is flush while going then flush again and maybe light a match....not bad at all. You can greatly control the smell also by what you eat. Its really not that big of a deal. In terms of freedom, the DS wins hands down......Im thrilled I made the choice I did!! Judie
