Dayna,

We stayed at the Mt. Sinai Guest Residence right across from the hospital. It

is at 3 E.

101st St. (telephone # ). It was very convenient to the hospital &

also

inexpensive for NY. Their rooms are always the same price no matter what time

of year

you are there (which was good for us being there New Year's Eve), and they do

not charge

hotel taxes. We had the cheapest room available with 1 queen bed, tons of

closet/drawer

space, and a kitchen for $165/night with no taxes. The room was very clean &

spacious,

but the bathroom was small. There was also an option for 2 doubles for

$180/night, and

a suite (I think somewhere between $195 - $225/night). The building is very old

with

ancient elevators, but I was pleased with the room. Because you are not going

at holiday

time like I did, you may be able to find other hotels with comparable prices. I

couldn't find

anything under $300 for the time I was there. The fact that they don't charge

hotel taxes

is a big plus, because for the 3 nights we were there, we probably saved another

$50 -

$75. The only downside to the hotel is that it is not in the best neighborhood,

which is

only a concern if you are walking around there after dark. During the daytime,

it is fine. I

was by myself with & we were out late every night. We took the subway

back to

the hotel, and had to walk 5 blocks through an area that looked like project

housing. I

was a little nervous, but thankfully nothing happened to us. I'd recommend

taking a cab

back to the hotel at night. Other than that, I was pleased with the hotel.

To get to Dr. Harbison, you need to enter the Faculty Practice building on 98th

St., and I

think she was on the 8th floor. I found this much easier to navigate then when

she was at

Cornell.

Good luck,

Kim C.

Dayna,

Salem always stays at the Excelsior Hotel. It is near the

Museum of Natural History, I believe. The neighborhood is safe for

the nighttime, too.

I think, however, that the Milford Plaza is a great place to stay.

It is in the best location, there is a lot to do near there and the

hotel is clean and safe. The only problem is the size of the

rooms. They look more like closets!

No matter what, unless you stay at the Mt. Sinai place, you will

have to take a taxi to get where to Dr. H.

My preference is the Milford Plaza. I love Times Square and all

that goes on around it.

I don't know where the other hotel is, Dayna. And I don't know how

much the cab ride is, either. I don't usually pay attention to that

when we go because my husband takes over. I'm sorry....

I'll ask when he wakes up. He is in a lot of pain today. I

think he rebroke the ribs when he moved the wrong way this morning.

Dayna,

Eating wasn't a big concern for us, since has a g-tube and my husband &

other

kids didn't come. There are a few restaurants (one is a pizza place) on Madison

Ave

around 96th St., and more if you keep heading downtown. There are also some

small

markets/delis in that area. I got some stuff & brought it back to the room to

eat the day

he saw Dr. H. On the last day we were there, we met a woman with 2 kids in

Central Park

& we went to dinner at a BBQ place which I thought was very good & very

affordable. I

don't remember the name of the place, but it was either on 3rd Ave. or Lexington

around

72nd street (give or take a few blocks).
