Guest guest
Well, yesterday by 11am, Dalia's ketones returned to normal and all day she drank her Pediasure just fine (not huge amounts, but an average amount for her)...she didn't nap well so she was extremely cranky all day, which is typical when she is tired. So, by bedtime she was all riled up from being so tired, that she was refusing her last bottle of the day..she also went for her 15 month well visit in the afternoon and had 2 immunizations, so that added to the stress of the day. Anyway, I encouraged her to drink 2 oz and then right as she was getting ready to go in the crib she threw up. DARN!! Now, I'm sitting there thinking is this the stomach bug or the stress of the day..Dalia has many times in the past spit up just from crying so much and getting uptight. Well, I didn't want to take any chances so we went to the ER...they took blood and checked all kinds of things. I told the doctor about ketones and she informed me that to check actual ketones they had to catheterize her, which they wanted to avoid if possible, but that the blood test that checked for sugars, dehydration, and many other things is even better than checking ketones and would be an indicator if there was a problem. I wasn't sure if I should buy this because I am so sensitive now to thinking doctors don't know anything, but I went along...at this point Dalia was sooooo overtired and hysterical from the poking and prodding, and to boot I have this nasty stomach thing now and I was like sick as a dog in there...the stress just was overwhelming. Anyway the tests came back normal, so they let us go...we fed her juice/Pedialyte through the night and until late morning, now we are back on Pediasure/Pedialyte...all of which is staying down. The issue is that first thing this morning her ketones were around low- moderate..the color looked in between...so, I went to check a few hours later and she had pooped all over the cotton ball...so now I am waiting for more urine. She is drinking little amounts here and there and so far it is all staying down. Am I doing the right thing? What is the long term effect of a couple of days of low-moderate ketones? Could it just be a fluke that she threw up last night that one time? MAybe she has low ketones every morning and I didn't know it?? Finally, how much and what kind of corn starch do I put in her night time bottle because I want to start this right away. Thanks and sorry so long.
