It could be the tylenol, or the reason you took the tylenol ( virus? ).

I would not think you have undone one year of hard work. I hear this sort of

thing can happen but the recovery is quicker. Stay on intro- stage one- easy to

handle foods for now. You should feel better soon- I hope so.

The only thing that i ingested that was not SCD Legal was an accidental dose of store brand Tylenol that was labled "ICE" i didnt relize it till i swallowed it and couldnt get it back up. the next day... Flair. it is very bad. urgency and blood. Could two little capsules do this to me? Well, the timing certainly seems to be there. Do you usually take tylenol? It could be a combination of the illegals in the meds and the actual meds, or active ingredients or whatever, that upset your bowels. On the upside, you at least know what caused it (probably), so after it gets out of your system, I bet you'll be great =) Until then just try to hit it with everything you got. Epsom baths, tons of homemade broth, warm packs on your stomach, vitamin E enemas, any anti-inflammatory (legal) supplements that have worked for you before. I think I read that bromelain is good? Also probiotics, and maybe boulardii if you have that. And don't forget to relax and get a lot of rest! Hope you feel better! Peace =)Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 75 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 30 mg 1x per day

thanks for the encouragement.... i took the tylenol for cramps and i have always

taken it, even while on SCD. never had a problem before. This just seems to be

such a bad flair. so sudden. How long does it take the intro diet to help the

flair stop? When i started this diet a year ago i was not in a flair.

It could also be the 1 year flare and it is a coincidence that it was the next day after taking the tylenol. I definitely echo Alyssa, lots of good broth, easy to tolerate foods, yogurt, epsom salt baths, and chilling out. And don't forget about dry, white, wine to help relax.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, May 11, 2010 8:55:40 PMSubject: Re: Flair! need encouragement.. :(

I'm sort of new to this diet but speaking from a medical background, I doubt it

could be the tylenol and would urge you to seek medical attention asap-- at

least call the doctor's office and talk to them about it. Not wanting you to

worry [try to destress and keep calm] but when I had bleeding problems years ago

my gastro doc said bleeding is always something you need to get checked out

asap. I don't have bowel issues now or anyway not like many here-- I'm here for

my autistic son. God bless. Kathy

I know this is scary. I was much sicker before I started SCD. I've been on it a

year with much less dramatic ups and downs thankfully. I do remember this

comment from " Life without bread " discussing low carb diets and colitis. As you

can well imagine, this diet advice which is quite old, must have approximated

SCD as most carbs were eliminated, but is not as effective as SCD.

The statement was that when one did have flares with UC, they were less intense

and less frequent along the way. I have heard people here say that too. It must

be scary to flare after one year- it would scare me too, but hopefully things

will settle down.

Everyone is different, so I do hope that your flare is short. It is hard to say

how long it will last

agree- absolutely!

I think those of us discussing diet are assuming that one had regular medical

care, a diagnosis, a colonoscopy ( as needed ), and would call the doctor for

any serious symptoms, bleeding, new symptoms,..and would also call if they

persist.

, I forget if you have UC or not, but if you do, the vitamin E enemas really help.Get an ear bulb syringe and mix together up to 8000 IUs of vitamin Ewith about a TB of distilled water and apply at night. Or you can usehalf during the day after you think your D episodes are over and thenmore at night. Feel better soon.MaraAt 12:55 PM 5/11/2010, you wrote:i have been on SCD strict for just over a year. Dear Marilyn,

thank you for speaking out!!! i needed to hear it. The blood is scary, but it

has been my usual sym

ptom for many years. Two years ago i ended up in the hospital for a week. Dont

want to go there again so i did put a call in to my GI Dr. Do you think i should

go on any meds to stop the flare? or do you think the intro diet will do it?

These buggers do seem aweful strong. how long should i wait it out?

Thanks so much for any encouragement....

Very Sincerely,

Take the meds if you need them. Don't let this get so out of hand that you do

end up hospitalized. It is important to stop the bleeding and not let it go on

for long.

It is always good to take the medicine that will do the job with the least

amount of side effects.

Thank you again Marilyn,

i do appreciate your time. My GI Dr. called in a script for 3 - 3mg Entocort

1X time a day. i took the first dose an hour ago and already feel better. I used

to be on Prednisone (pre SCD)and hated it, but alas it eventually did the trick.

This is supposed to be better with less side effects. i will keep posted how

this works in case anyone else gets into this situation. Also seeing my doctor

next week just to check in. My plan is to stay on the intro diet another day or

two and then start adding foods back in slowly and proceed as usual. thanks

again.

I'm glad you are feeling better already!

I've been on prednisone exactly once -- and not for gut issues, but yeah,

I hated it, too. But sometimes it, or similar drugs, are

necessary.

Entocort is much better than prednisone. Glad it is working for you.
